I'm compliling a list of all artists that have ever appeared on any of my "soundtrack" mixes and trying to figure out where they all are now. For groups, it's enough to know if the group is defunct and will never record together again. For solo artists, I'm trying to figure out if they're members of groups, or plan to record solo again, are even still alive, etc. It's a pretty long list and some of these are obscure, but here's what I have so far for all categories other than the artists who I know for sure are still active. Feel free to enlighten/correct me on any of these:

Daily Planet Disbanded shortly after the lead singer broke his leg at a concert. Then the other members went to attend to families and such. Earthsuit
Broke up because Adam and Paul were having a hard time getting their styles to mesh well. Split into Mute Math and Macrosick, Macrosick also spawned Club Of The Sons in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Last I heard, there may always be a new Earthsuit album if they decide to do one, but I wouldn't count on it.

ZOEgirl -officially broke up about a month ago Was it a permanent breakup or a hiatus? I've heard conflicting reports on this one. FFH -Unfortunately, still together. Someone here hinted, after I posted my review of Voice from Home, that there might be a possible breakup announcement soon. Either that hasn't surfaced yet, or it was bad intel. Margaret Becker -Still recording. Awesome. Michelle Tumes -Is about to release a new CD independently. Just released "Domine" to Christian radio last week. Defunct/Retired from Recording: Audio Adrenaline
They're doing some final stuff for a completely unneeded greatest hits CD (they've had what, 3 songs worth adding to their last best-of collection?). I don't know if that CD's already out or not, but it's recent enough to not refer to them as "defunct" yet. Beanbag
Yes, there was a car crash if I recall correctly. The Benjamin Gate
Last I heard, they were playing as Paul Colman's band on his solo dates with a band. This was at least two years ago though, so they're probably on to yet something else now. Bleach
They keep breaking up and then changing their minds about it. It's anybody's guess whether or not they're really gone now. Charlie Peacock
Released an intriguing (but ultimately not very memorable) jazz CD in '04, and plans on releasing more material of that sort in the future. He's running a new record label again now, and he's been doing session work for artists on that label (such as his son, Sam Ashworth, and his new band Astronaut Pushers). Chasing Furies
I've read that the guy that sang in this band has since joined a faceless local praise/worship group that is not worth bothering with. Creed
Scott Stapp went solo, and the guitarist formed a band called Alter Bridge IIRC. Both were awful too, IIRC. Dakoda Motor Co.
I saw something about a reunion show with their original singer recently. You should look into that. ...and I actually somewhat like this band. I didn't expect to, but I've been getting into them lately. Earthsuit
Yeah, what Brenden said. Fold Zandura
Actually, these guys are just on hiatus. They've put the band on hold because Frank was getting tired of it and Jerome got a better-paying gig with some other band. Jyro supposedly plays at some sort of community center youth event now. Jyro and Jerome did a tiny bit of work together for Mortal's Nu-En-Jin album, which came out in '02. It was...interesting, but not that spectacular. I think Jyro has other solo stuff out too. Grammatrain
Pete Stewart's old band, right? I think he's in the Accident Experiment now. Jennifer Knapp
Supposedly on hiatus, but it's hard to tell now. I guessed correctly a while back when I said her label would make some quick bucks selling more of her existing recordings, but I don't know if that counts for anything. I still haven't heard that "Live" disc anyway... LFO
You liked them? Really? What song? I really hope they've broken up by now. Plus One
They're still together, believe it or not. They lost members one-by-one for a few years, but the remaining two of them are now releasing some really pretentious stuff under the name "Castledoor". I don't know what to make of that. Raze
I seem to recall that this pop group had a rather strong Michael Jackson influence... Sixpence None the Richer
Status unclear. Leigh Nash has stated that she wants to record more Sixpence material, but Matt hasn't surfaced in quite some time now. Leigh's doing solo stuff and Matt is in a new band/group of session musicians. Steve Taylor
Gave up music career for film career, but still plays anniversary concerts (particularly, the anniversaries that Cornerstone and Creation celebrated in 2003). On Hiatus: Burlap to Cashmere
What Brenden said. Nickel Creek
They haven't said anything formally yet, but everyone in the band is prepping new solo material. Yes, even the bass-player-guy-who's-not-really-in-the-band. They play a lot of new stuff live now, which makes for awfully disjointed concerts (6 new songs in one set is always a bit much, but cram 5 of them into the encore, and well...) PfR
The drummer guy does home-studio stuff and production work now. He's mostly shifted from playing the drums to playing with Henry. Unknown Status: Sarah Masen
Supposedly she's being slowly coaxed into doing music again. I guess she's playing acoustic sets when her husband can promote his book at the same event, but that's about it for now.

awhile back I had read that Whiteheart got together for a reunion concert. old info as follows:
"The Soul2Soul Radio Network today announced the third annual Soul2Soul Honors event for Friday, August 25th at 7:00 p.m. at Northside Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana (Louisville, Kentucky). The Soul2Soul 2006 Honorees include: Rebecca St. James, BarlowGirl, The Katinas, worship leader Bruce Carroll, Christian Rock pioneer Whiteheart, and VeggieTales. AND will be recorded for televised broadcast at a later date.
The best news however is (drum roll please)... This year's Soul2Soul Honors include a rare, reunion performance by pioneering Christian Rock group, Whiteheart in an all-star line up that includes: Billy Smilely, Rick Florian, Mark Gershmehl, Tommy Sims, Jon Knox, and Gordon Kennedy. This marks the first time Whiteheart has performed together in almost ten years."

Since they insist on sending me updates from their website newsletter forever, even though I unsubscribe every time I get one, I'm sure I'll know when and if they go public with a breakup announcement. And since I intend to gloat, I will definitely let everyone know.

No, the ZOEgirl breakup is permanent. I got the press release. Check it out here: http://worldofcm.com/news/more.php?id=P977_0_3_0What I've heard of the new Michelle Tumes - it's more along the lines of Listen. You can listen to her single "Domine" on her MySpace. (/michelletumes)

I wouldn't say that about any style of music. If I know I just don't like the style of music, period, then I know I have no basis by which to judge the merits of individual artists within that genre. That said, ZOEgirl was mostly ear candy to me. The genre could probably be done more creatively than what they did, but I still appreciated the diversity that they brought to it.

I just found out - via a PM on my Xanga from Joey Belville himself - that The Echoing Green is still active. Well, sort of. He's working on a side project with all female vocals, where he writers the music and the various female singers write the lyrics. Something like that. He said that Sarah Masen was one of the vocalists, which kills two birds with one stone since that means she's still alive and kicking! He'll be sending me a review copy. I'm pretty stoked.

OK then. I guess it was time. Room to Breathe was a regression, so this is probably an act of mercy. What I've heard of the new Michelle Tumes - it's more along the lines of Listen. You can listen to her single "Domine" on her MySpace. (/michelletumes) The single sounds more like Center of My Universe, but that's not a bad thing. Her MySpace says that Agoura Hills, CA is her base of operations - I have no idea she lived in SoCal. Maybe my wife and I could catch her live one of these days. She'd love that. I was actually first introduced to MT in a live setting - she played three songs as the opening act for Jaci Velasquez and 4Him at the Fresno County Fair way back in 1998. Man, that was a long time ago! EDIT: Just found a tour date on MT's MySpace. This'll be a nice surprise for my wife, and as luck would have it, I was already planning on being in the area. September, 30 2006 at Loma Linda University Church 11125 Campus Street, Loma Linda, CA 92354
Come join Michelle as she plays new music from her upcoming self titled album and hits from the past. This is a free concert. Free Coldstone Creamery ice cream will be served after the concert.

Yeah, other than cropping up as a background vocalist on P.O.D.'s album, she appears to be going nowhere fast.

I dunno, I think she's in the better half of Top 40 music. I do too. She's never going to be artistically great against your Radioheads and Over the Rhines (she wasn't as a Christian artist either, btw), but I find some of her stuff fun enough.

I'm pleased to report that in the eons that have passed since I started this thread, the following have reunited and/or started recording again. Burlap to Cashmere Code of Ethics Dakoda Motor Co. (allegedly) Eastmountainsouth (well, sort of - they played a few shows together and recorded a duet on Pete's latest album) Grammatrain Jennifer Knapp Joy Williams (1/2 of The Civil Wars) The Juliana Theory (though they only reunited for a few shows) Margaret Becker Michelle Branch Out of the Grey Sarah Masen Sixpence None the Richer Smalltown Poets (at least for a Christmas album) Something Like Silas (became Future of Forestry)
Not so pleased about this one: Creed

Go outside, find a nearby alley, look for a stray cat, pick it up, throw it into a dumpster, and close the lid. Now go find another one, and repeat the process using the same dumpster. The ensuing melee will be a pretty good approximation of the Ke$ha experience (both sonically and visually).
