4. that old copper kettle was the death of me

5. and it's because I just don't feel it anymore ("The Lines of My Earth", Sixpence None the Richer, murlough)

3. and i couldn't love you any more than i do

"Even in Death", Evanescence

This one drove me nuts for a few minutes because I could totally hear the words and the melody in my head, and I knew it was a female singer, but I couldn't place it at first.

5. and it's because I just don't feel it anymore

"The Lines of My Earth", Sixpence None the Richer

I was just listening to that song yesterday.

you're right on #5. #3 may be the correct lyrics to the Evanescence song but it's not the one I was listening to, which also has a female singer.
I know you know #6.

hope these don't drive you too nuts.

I'll be adding to the list shortly.

Yeah, I just realized the Evanescence song says can't instead of couldn't. Oh well.

I know you know #6.

I wanna say "Tonight" by Sixpence None the Richer, but I don't recall that song having so much superfluous "oh yeah"-ing in it.

8. come on let's ride the [title] ("Circle Slide", The Choir, danny)

12. dreadful sorry [title] ("Clementine", [artist], murlough)

13. whatcha doin' with a [title] ("Suitcase", Over the Rhine, murlough)

14. ain't it grand when you're livin' in a [title] ("La La Land", All Star United, murlough)

16. it don't matter where I lay [title] ("All My Tears (Be Washed Away)", Emmylou Harris, murlough)

23. a time for peace I swear it's not too late

"La La Land", All Star United

16. it don't matter where I lay [title]

"All My Tears", Jars of Clay (or Emmylou Harris or Julie Miller... but shouldn't it say "be washed away" at the end, or do I have the wrong song again?)

21. the danger and the power, the friend and the foe

"The Tower", Vienna Teng

23. a time for peace I swear it's not too late

I know this one but I'm blanking.

25. all the love in my lips

8. come on let's ride the [title]
...circle slide. The Choir.

I know #15 but I cannot recall it now in my old age. My memory, it faaails me now...

Let's see you try to keep up with all of the current stuff that I'm trying to listen to. I'd love to dig into the back catalogue of every artist I've discovered, but current stuff takes priority.

laugh OtR puns! I love it.

Quote
"All My Tears", Jars of Clay (or Emmylou Harris or Julie Miller... but shouldn't it say "be washed away" at the end, or do I have the wrong song again?)

this one was weird. first Julie's version that was on the Songcatcher soundtrack came up but I couldn't understand the last line (something like "when death comes to call on you, who will he know [or "who will heed no"?] your name too", but the grammar makes no sense), so I skipped it. then Emmylou's came up but she adds a bunch of "it don't matter" background vocals to the end, so I just excluded those. my tags show that her recording is titled "All My Tears (Be Washed Away)", so that's what I went with.
not that I expect you to know, but I don't listen to Jars.

Quote
"Truth No. 2", Dixie Chicks
correct song, but I don't listen to the Dixie Chicks. it's Patty Griffin.

some of the other songs are covers, but if you can get the original artists I'll still count it.

the Latin one is actually not as obscure as it may seem. it's taken from a larger work that is pretty ubiquitous--I first heard of the text from the book Uncle Tom's Cabin, then found it with the ancient tune in an old English hymnal. then I heard various portions of it on the Amadeus soundtrack and again on the X2 soundtrack, and the melody for the ancient tune was on the Sleeping with the Enemy soundtrack...so if you're the sort of music geek I am (haha) it would almost be easy. I've heard all of those versions and remembered the ending being different in each one. I just never realized the title had "Be Washed Away" in parenthesis on Emmylou's version.

not that I expect you to know, but I don't listen to Jars.

I hope you've at least heard their version of this song; it's my favorite on their new album, and that's a big compliment in Julie's direction seeing as it's the only song on the album that they didn't write (and many of the other songs are excellent as well).

correct song, but I don't listen to the Dixie Chicks. it's Patty Griffin.

Whatever. 1/4 of that Dixie Chicks album was Patty Griffin covers anyway. I'm not a wholesale Dixie Chicks fan (lots of their other stuff kind of pisses me off), but that one album is awesome.

I downloaded the Jars version awhile ago but nothing really stood out about it. I like Julie's versions, both the stark Songcatcher one and the one with Buddy. I love their harmonies on the chorus. Emmylou's version is okay if I'm in the mood for something more electronic sounding and long. that weird bubbly bass annoys me sometimes.

I guess it's nice for Patty that the Chicks cover her songs, but eh, I can't stand their versions. apparently Jessica Simpson has covered a Patty song too and the idea of it just makes me shudder.

oh yeah, I was going to mention that you were right about the dreadful sorry Clementine song. artist?

and Rhapsodie is available as a free download from OtR's site, if you're interested.

It's a traditional song. I didn't think I was even right, but you gave credit for identifying either the original artist or the cover artist, so if the song is so old that we don't know who originally performed it, does it matter?

oh, you know what, I didn't even make the connection to the traditional song. it's not the same but it quotes it and has the same title.
