I hope other people here besides me watch ACL on PBS every Saturday.  I make it a part of my night to watch it before bed since it comes on at either 11 PM or Midnight. It varies from state to state what time it airs. Check http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/index.html for local air times.  These are some of the upcoming episodes (through January 2007)

11/4 - Sufjan Stevens followed by Calexico
11/11 - Ladysmith Black Mambazo
11/18 - Van Morrison
12/2 - Ben Folds followed by Ray LaMontagne (repeat)
12/9 - Etta James (repeat)
12/16 - Corinne Bailey Rae follwed by KT Tunstall
12/23 - Los Lonely Boys followed by the Gourds
12/30 - The Raconteurs followed by Cat Power
1/6/07 - Damien Marley
1/13/07 - James Blunt
1/20/07 - Dixie Chicks

I watch it when I remember,  but our local PBS has deemed it necessary to move it around on their schedule so I can never find it.

Still, Sufjan in a week? I'll have to track down the times on that one.

So did anybody else catch the Sufjan Stevens/Calexico episode last night?

I thought Sufjan and his band sounded good, even with a few vocal hiccups from Sufjan (e.g. his voice cracked a bit on "Casimir Pulaski Day" and some notes on "Detroit!  Lift Up Your Weary Head!" sounded a bit flat.)  Still, the band sounded like a well-oiled machine, just like they did when I saw them in concert back in September.  I had not heard Calexico's music before this, but I thought they were interesting.  Not sure if it's my cup of tea, though, although they do have an interesting sound.  I might have to track down some samples and listen to them again.

I watched the entire episode last night.  It was beautiful.  I enjoyed Sufjan with a full band, especially that gorgeous girl singing and playing the celeste.  whistle

Calexico was freaking amazing and it was awesome to see Sam & Sarah Beam (Iron & Wine) play with them.

Oh yeah.  I believe that was Shara Worden (a.k.a. My Brighest Diamond) and yes she is quite good-looking.   Grin  She also opened for Sufjan when I saw him live and she was wearing a rather striking red dress during her solo set.  Too bad I was way up in the nosebleed section...
