I've reached one of those annoying patches in my music listening where I'm quite content to continue listening to the narrow band of things I listen to but fear getting sick of those things I already love.  I've bought all of one album that was released in 2006, and it was by a band of [now] 60 year olds.  So, any suggestions for me?  Jazz has struck my fancy recently, and I can ask my dad for good things there (and I have a sizeable chunk of things already), but I'm also craving something else that rocks hard but isn't completely inane and ridiculous.  Ideas are welcome.  Thanks a bunch . . .

If you haven't listened to any Ayeron, give them a whirl. I've only heard their "Universal Migrator II - Flight of the Migrator" CD, but I absolutely love it.

That'd be great, but I can't access the Pub at college.  Sorry.  Our network is wonky.

Ok then,

Augustana is good is you're looking for melodic rock. I'd also recommend The Black Heart Procession.

Pedro The Lion's Control album is good, slow-burning rock.

Pretty much any Stavesacre cd (minus the horrid self-titled cd) is heavily rock-based.

The Lonely Hearts - Paper Tapes is a fun rock album.

Yeah . . . I liked the instrumentation just fine, but I can't stomach what's-his-name's voice . . . ditto that for House of Heroes.

I'm surprised that you don't like Claudio's voice.  The great thing about it is that he doesn't sing one way the whole time.  The instrumentation and lyrics are what really does it for me

Really?  I think of him the same way as Geddy Lee--obviously talented but far too high-pitched for my ears (for a guy, that is).

The Accident Experiment rock pretty hard and have amazing lyrics and are amazing musicians in a Tool sort of way. "Lucas' Star" is one of the greatest drum songs I've ever heard. "Lost Kisses" and "Tonight" are beautiful.  Songs like  the thought provoking "Mind Death Machine" and "So Far Away" are just some great hard rock tracks. For those unaware this is Pete Stewart and Marcos Curiel's band.

Do they have a full album out yet?

Yep, It's called United We Fear. It's one of my favorite albums of the year.

I will add it to "Already Released, Need to Hear" in my music journal. I like Pete Stewart except for his bad attitude about Christianity. And P.O.D. just hasn't been the same without Marcos Curiel.
