Mae's Singularity leaked a few days ago. Easiest way to get it is to look it up at http://www.tehorng.com.

I'm not surprised. I already had them on my 2008 list.

You must be a big band if the fact that you're not putting out an album this year is considered news.

Yeah, I'm not a bit surprised.  I was hoping for it to sneak in, but I wasn't counting on it.

Good news for schil: Mary Gauthier has a new album coming out next month.

Good news for me: It's produced by Joe Henry. Where does he find the time?!?

Good news for everyone: Thom Jurek tells me it's really, really great.

Smiley yeah, it's been on my looking forward list for some months now. several artists I like have released (relatively) happy/fun albums this year; I tend to not go for that so am counting on Mary to not happy-out on me. laugh

Some of them are recycled puns from tehir 2003 Christmas album. Which, if you ask me, is pretty lame.

The first single from Bruce Springsteen's new album that releases in October (Magic) is available for free on iTunes right now. I love it and I'm really excited about the album, especially since he's back with the E Street Band.

EMICMG has clips up for Falling Up's "Captiva".  They can be found at http://www.emicmgdistribution.com/newreleases/left.asp?item_id=777827&artist_id=222994

First impressions... this definitely sounds different from anything they've done so far.  One good thing I notice just from the 30 second clips is the variety in each song (which happened to be a downfall of Dawn Escapes.  The songs bled together after a while).  There seems to be more focus on synths, rather than just being loud.  Go check it out.

Thrice is going to release their 4-disc Alchemy set in two parts. Vols. I and II (Fire & Water) come out in October, and Vols. III & IV (Earth & Air) come out next spring.

My question is, with six songs in each volume, why not just put 12 songs on a disc, save resources, space, and money? What is this obsession that Dustin Kensrue seems to have with short CDs?

The songs might be fairly long.

The songs might be fairly long.

80 min/12 = 6 min 40 sec. So each song has to average longer than that to justify the split. Seems doubtful, unless Thrice has turned into a prog rock outfit.

Fire, Water, Earth, Air put me in mind of Avatar, not alchemy.  I know the "elements" predate the cartoon by a few millenia at least, but whatever.  Lighten up.

I'm lightened already! I just thought you were making a joke based on the "A" names that reminded you of one another. I know nothing of the series Avatar. I had to click properties on the image and get its filename just to figure out what the hell you were referring to. I was attempting to acknowledge that I had figured out what you were getting at.

And, from John Warne's blog about the RK album:

Quote
My personal favorite is a Christmas carol that the five of us all stood around the mic to sing together.

Yesss.  Looks like we might get another a cappella song.  Probably "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" as the album opener if I had to guess.  That would work great as an a cappella number.

I love it when those guys sing acapella. An entire album of it probably wouldn't be well-received by most fans, but I think it would be awesome if they did an acapella EP - especially if they figured out a way to arrange some of their classic songs for just their voices.

Well, this seems to be the year for Christian artists I was listening to circa Y2K to resurface. First came Luna Halo, and now I find out all in one day that Fono has a new album called Too Broken to Break available for free download (see the "What Are You Listening To?" thread), and Chasing Furies' Sarah Macintosh has a solo album called The Waiters, The Watchers, The Listeners, The Keepers & Me. I'm expecting that both artists have changed significantly since I last heard from them.
