I was browsing around eMusic trying to find some music to download with my free trial and I stumbled upon this gem. I had never heard of her before..
I'm honestly not sure how to describe this CD. Which isn't that much of a surprise considering that I'm generally awful at describing music anyway. It certainly has a lot of traditional Irish influences, but also some bluegrass/alt-country/folk flair. I'm really digging it right now. Not a whole lot (any?) of original songs on here, most of them are actually classic Irish/other traditional songs. But they're done really well. But to be honest I've never heard any of these songs before, so they might as well have been original for me

Her vocals are really great.. they're very wispy, tender and delicate. But at the same time it's strong.. but not in the diva power-singer kind of strong, more of a passion. It really works with the music. It's a voice that keeps me really interested and engrossed in the music.. it's almost haunting in some songs. The album title, Hush, is quite suiting

As far as instrumentation goes, it's a lot of banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and some bass and percussion as well.
I'm not entirely sure who'd like this one... I'm not sure I've heard any of you mention much Irish music. But if you like bluegrass (including Nickel Creek) or even alt-country at all give it a shot. (so that'd be most of you, I hope)
Meh. I really suck at this describing thing.
