Yes, THAT Joan Osborne.  She has a recent album out that I just stumbled across.  Pretty Little Things is a country-style album along the lines of Mindy Smith, Loretta Lynn, etc.  She had many collaborators on the album, including Vince Gill and Patty Griffin (there ya go, Schil!).  This is better than her mid 90's "What If God Was One Of Us" one-hit wonder material.

I sure hope so.  I can't stand that song.

Seriously though, I sampled the rest of that CD (i.e. listened to the first minute or so of every song) and I didn't find it to be all that bad.  So I figured she had some musical talent somewhere.  Still, that "One of Us" song seriously turned me off.

I had heard about her Patty cover and gave it a listen. I love the song on Patty's unreleased Silver Bell album, but Joan's is too shiny for my taste.
I gave a few other songs on the album a listen but my initial impression is that it's too country and shiny for me. I had heard a duet Joan did with Melissa Etheridge and was blown away at how she could belt it out, but I didn't hear that on this album.

I guess this would be a bad time to admit that I liked "One of Us".

I was at a resteraunt. I ordered a chicken sandwich, but I don't think the waitress understood me. Cuz she said "how would you like your eggs?". So I tried to answer her anyhow, I said incubated, and then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked, and then cut up, and then put on a grill, and then put on to a bun. Damn, it's gonna take a while! I don't have time - scrambled! -- Mitch Hedberg
