I first heard about this one some time ago, but it slipped my mind for months until I stumbled across it today while browsing online.  It's a foreign, fantasy/suspense/horror film released a couple weeks ago and now receiving wider release.

check it out:

I thought it was really good. I'd give it 4 out of 5. I'm hoping to see it in theatres when it releases here, though. I have a feeling it'll be even better in a theatrical setting.

I just saw it.

I went in expecting a lot.  It did not turn out to be the experience I thought it was going to be though.
This is a fantasy not about spiriting you away to a new world.  This one keeps you firmly grounded in the real world in the midst of its fantasy.  And as horrific as the tasks Ofelia is ordained to complete, they all reflect the horror in our own world.  Its message did not hit me until after I left the theatre and started driving home - the danger of blind obedience and aversion to change.  It makes me feel like I missed a lot else in it as well.  I'll have to see it again before its theatrical run is over.

Those of you that haven't seen it. SEE IT.  I can safely say it was one of the best movies to come out in a year.

It's a gem. Dark, disturbing, and NOT FOR CHILDREN, but a towering achievement of artful, imaginative storytelling-- indeed, it's one of the best fantasy films ever made.

It definitely deserves its 6 Academy Award nominations
