(should I apologize for posting a meme here on the movies/tv board? should I apologize for the pun?)
What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why?
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? What show impressed you most in 2006? What show impressed you least in 2006?

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? I got addicted to Heroes, Chapelle's Show, The Daily Show, South Park, The Colbert Report, Robot Chicken, and 24 What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? I realized that the Stargate movie sucked and my memories of enjoying it were just because I was little. What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? I meant to check out Batllestar Galactica but haven't had the chance. I haven't had much free time.
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? See above. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? Lost could suceed in pissing me off enough for me to stop watching, same with 24, since this season could be hard to keep convincing What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? X-Men, I love the comics too much to let go, unless they totally forget what makes them great, which isn't likely. What show impressed you most in 2006? Heroes, creatively putting superpowered humans in the real world without seeming cheesy. What show impressed you least in 2006? The Nine, it could have been good, but it was mind-numbingly boring, trying too hard to be Lost. [/quote]

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? Lost Firefly Heroes Harry Potter Veronica Mars Arrested Development What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? (technically I gave up on these before 2006, I think) Gilmore Girls (still a big fan of the first seasons though) Smallville Alias (still like the first seasons)
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? I don't ever mean to get into fandoms.
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? I checked out Monk this year. hopefully I will be able to watch more Battlestar Galactica this year too.
What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? I'm not enjoying season 3 of Veronica Mars as much as I did 1 and 2. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? eh. hopefully Lost and 24 will end before they get crappy. LotR can't get crappy. =) What show impressed you most in 2006? for a 2006 show, Heroes. otherwise, Lost.
What show impressed you least in 2006? I had happily been ignorant of American Idol until 2006, I believe. unfortunately, this ended due to my habit of reading a book in the breakroom at work--others wanted to watch American Idol. much headbanging (head-to-table) on my part ensued. I hadn't expected it to be so horrific.

I get into lots of fandoms; I'll restrict my answers to TV/Movies. What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? Firefly, Futurama, Dukes of Hazzard (in the so-bad-it's-good category) What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? Gundam What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? Some are born into fandom, some acquire fandom, and others have fandom thrust upon them. I am strictly the third type. What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? Arrested Development, since my roommate bought the DVDs (this seems to be my primary way of having it thrust upon me). What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? Since I usually watch the entirety of a series over a relatively short period of time (we watched all seasons of Futurama in about a month and a half), I don't think I have any that are "in process". What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Star Wars (I think we have already adequately explored the depths of crapitude this series can achieve) LotR Pirates of the Caribbean (because I mean, come on...pirates!) What show impressed you most in 2006? Definitely Firefly. I'm not generally into live-action stuff, but it just oozed quality. Unless it means new-in-2006, to which I have no answer since I haven't watched any new shows. Planetes (which ran on NHK about three years ago but is available on DVD) also significantly impressed me. What show impressed you least in 2006? At a friend's insistence, I watched two episodes of South Park (bringing my total to four). That show still seems to have no redeeming qualities.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? That 70s Show Scrubs Richard Linklater Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (or as my dad calls it, Special Perverts Unit) What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? I still think it's funny, but Napoleon Dynamite has lost some charm. I still love Hugh Laurie, but House has lost its touch with me a little bit. CSI is pure "there isn't anything else on right now but I don't want to turn off the TV" for me at this point.
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? Um . . . not sure I quite comprehend the question.
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? 24 isn't that impressive and I don't like Lost . . . I don't really intend on any. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? the X-Men franchise. I want to see what Hugh Jackman does with the Wolverine flick before I say anything. The first two movies are great, the third was hugely disappointing and almost enough to make me surrender fandom. haha. That was one of the nerdiest things I've said. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Hmm. Don't know at this point.
What show impressed you most in 2006? I didn't really watch any of the new shows . . . What show impressed you least in 2006? See above. I've stuck to movies for the most part.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? Battlestar Galactica, Entourage, Firefly What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? Gilmore Girls, Studio 60 (and it just started in '06!) What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? Heroes- well, I didn't really mean to get into it, I just started hearing how good it is and since I don't like to just jump into things midstream I'm waiting on the DVDs. I always mean to rent Arrested Development and Alias but never get around to it. I meant to start watching The Sopranos on A&E but forgot. (Or was that this year?)
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? Heroes, for sure. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? Can't really think of anything; I feel like I've let go of everything that got crappy. If Jeremy Piven left Entourage I'd stop watching it. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? If I latch onto something it's hard for me to let it go. I tend to have faith that things I like won't get crappy. What show impressed you most in 2006? Battlestar Galactica What show impressed you least in 2006? My friend insisted I watched two episodes of The OC. It was terrible.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? Firefly. I think that's it. What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? I maintained all my fandoms. What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? Battlestar Galactica, The Wire, Heroes, Northern Exposure (lots of old shows, really)
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? See prior question. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? None right now. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? I'm fickle. I'd let go of anything.
What show impressed you most in 2006? Lost What show impressed you least in 2006? I watched "Angels in America" on DVD, and basically just thought "what the hell". I think I got it because I like Pacino and Emma Thompson. It was this year's show I caught up on because it was critically acclaimed, but was ultimately let down (see: The Sopranos).

I watched "Angels in America" on DVD, and basically just thought "what the hell". That was my reaction, too. I had to read the play for my English 102 class my second semester of college, hated it, the teacher made us watch the mini-series, enjoyed it a little more, but still hated it overall.

(should I apologize for posting a meme here on the movies/tv board? should I apologize for the pun?) You should never apologize for puns, unless they're so awkwardly constructed that people aren't even sure what the joke is. This isn't one of those cases. What fandoms did you acquire in 2006?Heroes is the big one. Studio 60 and Brothers & Sisters have slowly grown on me, and 30 Rock eventually did, too. I enjoyed The Nine and Day break but I'm not exactly shedding tears over their early cancellation. I was mildly interested in what little of Battlestar Galactica I'd seen at the beginning of the year; now it's overtaken Lost as my favorite show. What fandoms did you let go of in 2006?Alias got pretty ridiculous toward the end; I was always excited to see what was around the corner, but as it wrapped up, I realized I watched it to make fun of it with friends more than anything else. I very nearly gave up on Brothers & Sisters a few episodes in; then it started getting good. What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why?The Office. It's the kind of show where the humor is derived from awkward statements coming out of people's mouths and then everyone letting them lie with extremely uncomfortable silence. Funny occasionally, but it doesn't work for me as the main motif of the show. What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007?No new ones, though during the summer break I might deepen my appreciation for Deep Space 9, which I claim to be my favorite Star Trek series but I missed most of its best seasons while I was in college. I also need to go back and watch the Babylon 5 series one of these days. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve?I'm pretty diehard about watching TV shows until the bitter end, as I did with Alias and Enterprise. Lost is disappointing me slightly, but nowhere near enough for me to stop watching it. They'd have to kill of most of the major characters and have it cease to be an ensemble show for me to seriously consider quitting that show. Movie franchises are a different story; I likely won't be back for the next installment of Zorro, though I don't even know if they'll make another one. Mission: Impossible has become a bit played out, too, but I don't expect them to get to M:I IV for a while anyway. I've definitely become less of a computer-animated kids' film fan. I used to rush to see every CGI movie out there, Pixar or otherwise. After Valiant and Chicken Little, I've learned to be more cautious. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?Lost, and though I don't expect it to get crappy at all, Battlestar Galactica. Saturday Night Live is already pretty crappy, but it ebbs and flows on that show and their newest cast members are actually quite promising. I'll probably always watch that show just so I don't miss that one absolutely hilarious skit that everyone else will be trying to find on YouTube the following week. What show impressed you most in 2006?Battlestar Galactica. What show impressed you least in 2006?Plenty of shows that I watched once and said "not my thing", but out of the ones I've watched regularly, probably Studio 60. It's witty, but a little too smug and self-satisfied on most occasions.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? Naruto, Trinity Blood, South Park, Robot Chicken, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show
What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? 7th Heaven, why I was watching up to last season beats me... What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? Lost, Heroes, Witch Hunter Robin
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? None, currently. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? Nothing I watch sucks, yet. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Robot Chicken...I...can't...help...it...
What show impressed you most in 2006? I found the Colbert Report quite amusing, especially during the election. What show impressed you least in 2006? Family Guy.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? [...], Witch Hunter Robin
Witch Hunter Robin isn't a bad series, but it's not great either. If you like dark, sort of gothy shows then I'd say it's about the same level as Hellsing or Noir. It's very episodic at the beginning, but after the halfway point it actually starts to have a plot.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? Lost, Firefly, 24, House, The Office
What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? No major ones I can think of.
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? I'm interested in watching Battlestar Galactica and Heroes, but haven't gotten around to either.
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? See above.
What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? Not sure any of my fandoms need too much improvement at the moment. Any of them would have to get a lot worse before I stopped watching.
What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Lost, cause I have to see what happens. Star Wars, because I love the originals so much.
What show impressed you most in 2006? Firefly in the "why the hell did this get cancelled!?" sense. For a show that is actually on TV still, I'll go with Lost.
What show impressed you least in 2006? South Park. I watched to see what all the fuss was about. I still don't know.

Ha! I haven't heard of either of those. I really only watch anime Saturday nights on Cartoon Network, so my knowledge of it is limited to whatever they are showing. Though a new movie store recently opened close to where I live that supposedly has a good selection of anime to choose from, but I haven't checked it out yet.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? The Colbert Report, Scrubs - see second question, Studio 60, 30 Rock, The Dog Whisperer :D (on occasion)
What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? Gilmore Girls, Alias, What Not to Wear, Scrubs - which I used to love, and then gave up on in 2006, and then started watching again in 2006
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? Battlestar Galactica, Veronica Mars - just never had the time or put the effort into getting the DVDs
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? Battlestar Galactica, maybe What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? Studio 60
What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Probably none. If something got crappy enough, I'd cut it loose, even if it had sentimental value (see: Gilmore Girls)
What show impressed you most in 2006? The Office, 30 Rock, The Colbert Report
What show impressed you least in 2006? Gilmore Girls. Sigh.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2006? Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars, Friday Night Lights (by far the best new show of '06 IMO) What fandoms did you let go of in 2006? The O.C., Gilmore Girls What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? 24 and Battlestar Galactica. Why? I watch too much TV as it is...
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007? None out of existing shows ... What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve? I already dropped the two that were sinking bad ... What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Lost. I love the show, and I want to see where it goes, no matter how silly it may get (though it's still my favorite show on TV right now) What show impressed you most in 2006? tie: Friday Night Lights (very powerful drama using small-town football as the backdrop. Even non-sports fans can get into this one.) Grey's Anatomy - the level of writing and acting has really risen to the top. Very effective at mixing laugh out loud moments with gut-wrenching emotion in the matter of one episode. What show impressed you least in 2006? GIlmore Girls. What once was a punchy, witty show has turned dull and unfunny.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why? 24 and Battlestar Galactica. Why? I watch too much TV as it is... This is also my usual excuse for not getting into 24 and other much-lauded shows. Which usually prompts the fan telling me I need to watch a particular show to do an audit of what I'm already spending my time watching. NP: "Never Take Friendship Personal", Anberlin

Vlad!, can something be done to institute a little quality control here? I know we don't want to censor a bunch of reserved words, but maybe just to be sure people don't post SPAM like this, we should institute some tighter censorship on unregistered users.

Thanks for dealing with that, Schil. Why do these things always happen when I'm gone?
mur/bloop: I have been talking with the SMF devs for a while now about extending the CAPTCHA system used to prevent bogus registrations over to guest posts as well, but they have not yet seen fit to implement this as a feature. I will look into third-party mods to see if there's something that will help in the meantime.

I guess mods are allowed to reply to locked threads without realizing they're still locked. Funny how that system works.
What fandoms did you acquire in 2007? Journeyman. This show isn't getting the credit or the promotion that it deserves, which means its cancellation is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point. Everyone who hasn't seen it just assumes it's a Quantum Leap ripoff.
My wife also got me into Magnum, P.I., of all things. What fandoms did you let go of in 2007? Only the shows that were cancelled anyway. I watched Studio 60 through to the end even though I stopped liking it well before that. Once I found out they weren't even going to bother burning off the rest of The Nine's episodes on-air, I promptly forgot that they would be shown online, and decided that I didn't care what happened in those episodes because they weren't going to resolve any mysteries anyway. What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2007? Why? None. If I mean to watch something, I'll generally just watch it.
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2008? It might be a good time to finally give 24 a try... oh, wait. Never mind. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2008 unless things significantly improve? Boston Legal. It's getting a bit tedious, and the revolving door cast doesn't stick around long enough for me to really get invested in most of the characters. Spader and Shatner still make me laugh, but sometimes this show is trying so hard to prove the ridiculousness of political correctness that it comes off as being sexist, racist, and just plain mean-spirited. Before, it felt like plenty of characters were that way, but that the show didn't condone their behavior; now, more and more, it appears to. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and Heroes, because each has shown an ability to redeem itself. It's very trendy to bail on these shows at the first sign of a not-well-though-out subplot or a character that grates on the nerves. To me, the whole of these shows is greater than the sum of their parts, so I'm in it for the long haul.
I also love Star Trek, despite the many ups and downs that the franchise has been through, and I'm excited for the movie. What show impressed you most in 2007? Lost. It impressed me even more in its past seasons, but this season, they started off rather crappy and made one hell of an awesome comeback. What show impressed you least in 2007? Bionic Woman. It got all the hype and deserved very little of it. I'm not sure why I still watch it, other than to see if Starbot shows up again.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2007? "Pushing Daisies" is easily the best new show I saw this year.
I started watching "Heroes", and I like that one.
I started watching "Friday Night Lights", and it's a pretty good show. I hear last season was much better, though.
I don't remember, did I start watching "The Wire" this year? It's among the best shows I've ever seen.
What fandoms did you let go of in 2007? None. I'm very faithful in my fandoms, I think.
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2007? Why? You know, as much as I like "Pushing Daisies" when I get to watch it, it's usually only about 2 Wednesdays a month, the other two being club meetings at school. Other than that, I pretty much got into what I wanted to get into.
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2008? Kid Nation. Kidding, kidding. I don't plan so far ahead. I would love to check out some more cable television shows on DVD that I don't see, not having cable and all.
What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2008 unless things significantly improve? I can't think of any offhand.
What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Same answer here as last time.
What show impressed you most in 2007? Probably "LOST" or "The Wire", but I was watching back episodes of the latter on DVD.
What show impressed you least in 2007? I don't watch shows that don't impress me much for very long.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2007?
Monk Battlestar Galactica House, seasons 1-3 (haven't started season 4 yet and have my reservations about the apparent changes) Once & Again Joan of Arcadia What fandoms did you let go of in 2007?
not officially letting go, but I never did get caught up with this year's season of 24. I still consider myself a fan of the earlier seasons though, and maybe eventually I will catch up. also I have not found myself all that interested in keeping up with season 2 of Heroes but I might catch up with it later. I didn't love most of season 3 of Veronica Mars. I did finish watching and am sad the show got canceled though.
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2007? Why?
I don't intend to get into fandoms. I did think that I might watch Bionic Woman, but I checked out one episode and couldn't bear to try watching another. I also checked out one disc of Futurama and liked what I saw but I don't consider it a fandom. yet.
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2008? (even though I don't intend to get into fandoms, I will check them out.) some folks who love some of the same shows I do have mentioned Wonderfalls so I plan to netflix the dvds. (it is not a 2008 show. will there even be any 2008 shows worth checking out?) also I plan to watch more Futurama. I read about some new Wallace & Gromit material featuring Shaun the Sheep but I haven't looked into more info about that. maybe I will watch some more Dr. Who. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2008 unless things significantly improve?
I don't really have any in this category. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
if my fandoms get crappy I let go of the stuff I don't like but hang on to the stuff I do.
What show impressed you most in 2007? for an older (and prematurely canceled) show, Once & Again for a current show, Battlestar Galactica
What show impressed you least in 2007? Bionic Woman. I was mainly interested because of Katee Sackhoff's involvement, but I didn't have any high expectations. then I saw comments from others who had kept their expectations low as well. they thought it was surprisingly unsucky. then I watched it and my reaction was "this sucks so much!!" (not Katee. Katee is cool.) also I had heard that there would be sneak peak BSG minisodes in between the breaks of Flash Gordon. I tried watching for them one time, but it was so painful.

I don't watch enough US TV (I watch none except for football) to fill out this list, but I will comment on one of my answers for last year. I said that I never plan on giving up the PotC fandom. Well, er, I actually did give it up, to the extent that I never even bothered to see the third movie. Pirates are awesome, Johnny Depp is awesome, and the humor is generally awesome, but unfortunately, the series' transition from "one-shot wonder" to "franchise" was not a smooth one.
I am cautiously optimistic about the new season of Futurama and intend to check it out at some point, but the series had started to dip into suck.

It's worth seeing, and I say that as someone who was ambivalent about the second one. Just break it up into multiple sittings or something.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2007? Dexter Pushing Daisies What fandoms did you let go of in 2007? none What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2007? Why? I meant to get more into Pushing Daisies, but I can't really watch tv live anymore, so I fell behind.
Reaper amused me, but fell victim to the same fate as the above show.
I would watch America's Next Top Band or whatever, but again, no live TV
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2008? I don't know What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2008 unless things significantly improve? I may just give on american idol, since I have no ability to watch it What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Heroes, Lost What show impressed you most in 2007? Pushing Daisies was astoundingly creative and unique in a world full of crap. Dexter also was surprisingly complex and interesting. This has been the best season yet for House. What show impressed you least in 2006? Cavemen, it was every bit as bad as you think, probably worse. I couldn't even finish one episode, and you all know how much I love to watch crap.

Brenden, by "live tv" do you mean tv that's currently airing (i.e. you don't have an antenna and don't have cable), or live-action tv? I assume you don't actually mean live tv, as none of the shows you mentioned are actually aired live. It's worth seeing, and I say that as someone who was ambivalent about the second one. Just break it up into multiple sittings or something.
I have trouble watching movies in multiple sittings. I'd be willing to sacrifice most of an evening to watch it if I actually had it, but I haven't really gotten around to buying the DVD yet.

I prefer to watch things straight through in one sitting, too, but the reality of being married to a schoolteacher who had to get up at the butt-crack of dawn means that we get home from dinner on a Friday night, pop in a DVD, she falls asleep halfway through, I nudge her awake, and we agree to watch the rest tomorrow.

I don't have an antenna or cable, so i have no way of watching shows at the time they are aired.

I don't know if you have cable internet or not, but if you do then you should know that the net signal generally comes along with the analog cable signal, so installing a splitter and plugging the coax into your TV will get you free analog cable. In general, though, I find that having to go to the extra effort of using something like TVU or Joost, downloading via BT, or buying the DVD means that I watch a lot less TV than I otherwise would. This is a good thing

What fandoms did you acquire in 2007? Futurama Prison Break
What fandoms did you let go of in 2007? None to speak of.
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2007? Heroes.
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2008? Heroes. And possibly Battlestar Galactica, although I this point I think I'll wait until the show ends and then rent all of the seasons. What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2008 unless things significantly improve? None. I haven't been able to watch House much this season and haven't particularly liked what I have seen, but the first couple seasons were so amazing and Hugh Laurie is still awesome so I'm unlikely to give it up.
What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why? Lost, House, The Office.
What show impressed you most in 2007? The Office-because my obsession with this show is certainly unhealthy. Futurama-because how can a show this awesome not still be on tv (oh yeah, Fox...)
What show impressed you least in 2007? I didn't really watch anything I didn't like this year.

IMO it might have been a good move, since the show was starting to get a little crappy. It was in that nebulous zone where a series that was once goofy, off-the-wall comedy starts to convert more to situational comedy and even add some dramatic elements (Leela + her parents, that whole episode with Fry and his dog, Fry + Leela, etc) which aren't particularly funny at all. Whether the show could have made the transition from the "we're running out of obvious gags" stage to the "we are going to deliver more thought-out humor" stage is something I'm not sure of, but being canceled meant that we didn't have a chance to find out.

I agree that the dramatic elements got more pronounced late in the show's run, but I didn't mind it so much (other than the dog one). But I think it always had some drama within all the goofball comedy, such as the episode with Fry's brother, which I'm pretty sure aired in the middle of the show's run. Either way, the last episode they ever aired (which I found out after watching it) is one of my all-time favorites, and thus my dissapointment when I found out it was the last episode aired.
