Is that the one with Fry and the Robot Devil's hands? I didn't like that one too much (I did like the one with Bender as Coilette earlier that season, I will admit). I'm not saying it was all crap, I'm just saying that I preferred it when it was fairly mindless comedy to when they brought in the do-rama.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2008?
The X-Files (mainly), Sex and the City

What fandoms did you let go of in 2008?
Law & Order- I finally just decided to stop telling myself I'd catch up because I knew I never would.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2008? Why?
Mad Men, the rest of The Sopranos, the rest of Sex & the City. I didn't because I've been watching The X-Files since March.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2009?
Mad Men, the rest of Sex & the City, Californication, maybe Veronica Mars

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2009 unless things significantly improve?
Heroes, if Sylar & Noah weren't heavily featured. And I'm feeling serious Entourage fatigue.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Well, Survivor, obviously, because we're 17 seasons in and I'm still watching. Lost and Battlestar Galactica because neither one is going to go on and on and on forever with no end in sight.

What show impressed you most in 2008?
Honestly- The X-Files. (I have two episodes left to watch.) As far as something current, 30 Rock season two really impressed me with how much better it was than the first season- and the first season was awesome.

What show impressed you least in 2008?
Heroes season three so far. It really has reached new levels of suckitude. I also tried watching The Mentalist because I love Simon Baker, but I couldn't get into it- the show's really not that bad, but I wasn't terribly impressed.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2008?
Bones

What fandoms did you let go of in 2008?
I guess I officially let go of Heroes. didn't finish season 2 and probably won't check out season 3.
didn't catch up with whatever season it was of 24 either.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2008? Why?
I meant to check out Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. watched a few episodes and meant to watch more but ended up more interested in other things.
I watched some episodes of 30 Rock and liked it pretty well. I wouldn't call it a fandom though.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2009?
I plan to continue to check out 30 Rock.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2009 unless things significantly improve?
Monk is in danger of being let go. the first few episodes of season 6 were blah and I lost interest. I did watch the season 7 premiere and thought it was okay. I plan to make another attempt at watching season 6. if it is still blah, I'll skip to season 7 and decide from there.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
none.

What show impressed you most in 2008?
nothing comes to mind.

What show impressed you least in 2008?
I'm still bitter about the stupid big reveal/plot twist at the end of season 3 of Bones.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2008?
I haven't really tuned into any new shows that I wasn't already watching. Crusoe looks promising, I guess, but the series is designed to be short-lived. My wife introduced me to Magnum, P.I. in late 2007; I thought it was cheesy but harmless entertainment at the time, but I've come to really enjoy the show's quirks when it sticks to its buddy-comedy strengths and it's not caught up in the typical "far-fetched ratings grab plot device" type of thing.

What fandoms did you let go of in 2008?
I was intrigued (though not blown away) by the Knight Rider relaunch, but the actual series far has been immensely sucktastic, only worth watching to laugh its sheer ridiculousness. I probably won't hold out much longer.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2008? Why?
I tried Fringe because J. J. Abrams was behind it and the mythology looked interesting. But it was too farf-etched and gory for me to really get into it.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2009?
Two friends, completely independent of one another, have informed me that I would probably really like Chuck, so maybe I'll Netflix it sometime. my wife is also amazed that I never got into Quantum Leap since I'm such a sci-fi nerd, so we'll be Netflixing that as well. I'm starting to warm up the occasional episode of The Office, but I still can't see myself watching it on a regular basis.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2009 unless things significantly improve?
I can't think of any. I either give up on shows within a few episodes of the pilot, or I stick with 'em for the long haul - at least as far as scripted series are concerned.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and Heroes. The first two have a definite end date, as was pointed out above, and have every reason to strive for 100% and go out with a bang. Both have only ever faltered for a handful of episodes at a time. As for Heroes, Season 3 is really good so far, y'all! I think they did a good job of recognizing where they went wrong in Season 2, and they shored it up by getting back into most of the original characters that the fans new and loved, taking great care to only introduce new characters as part of the existing storylines and then branch out and explore those folks later if warranted.

What show impressed you most in 2008?
Battlestar Galactica. Season 4 has been extremely ballsy so far. They've done things I didn't expect them to do until the bitter end of the series... or at all. 30 Rock has impressed me with its quick, consistent level of wit, improving significantly over the weak laughs it got from me early in its first season. It's hard to have to wait so long into the new TV season for its premiere - this show runs circles around SNL in terms of its comedic value.

What show impressed you least in 2008?
Knight Rider. 'Nuff said.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2008?
Heroes.  I watched the first two seasons on dvd and then started watching "live" with the third season.

What fandoms did you let go of in 2008?
Heroes.  I actually didn't dislike season two as much as most fans of the show seem to, but I really wasn't liking season 3 and don't have a lot of time on my hands so I gave up.
House.  I may not have permanently given up on the show because I still love the first two seasons so much, but I seriously forgot this show even existed for awhile.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2008? Why?
Battlestar Galactica.  I just don't have the time right now, so I plan on watching the whole series once its over and all out on dvd.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2009?
Battlestar Galactica as mentioned above.  I've also seen a couple episodes of Fringe and it peeked my interest enough to possibly watch more.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2009 unless things significantly improve?
None to speak of.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Lost, because there are only two seasons left and I have to know how it all ends!
The Office, just because.

What show impressed you most in 2008?
Lost.  Despite the fourth season being shortened, it was pretty much awesome.
Heroes.  Season 1 and parts of 2.

What show impressed you least in 2008?
Heroes.  The other parts of season 2 and season 3.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2009?
Arrested Development, In Treatment, Parks and Recreation, The Vampire Diaries

What fandoms did you let go of in 2009?
Heroes, because it became unbearable.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2009? Why?
Just the ones I always say I'm going to check out but never do: Veronica Mars, Bones, etc. I suppose the only reason I never do is because I'm lazy.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2010?
Parenthood, because Lauren Graham is in it; Modern Family, because everyone raves about it.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2010 unless things significantly improve?
I don't know if I could ever REALLY let go of The Office, but I like to tell myself I could, because they have assassinated some of my favorite characters, and it's become very mean-spirited. Also, I intend to watch the next season of Entourage that comes out on DVD and then if it's half as bad as the last one, I quit.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Lost, because it's never been truly crappy and how silly would it be to give up now? Survivor, because I've watched 19 seasons faithfully and what's the use of quitting before it's a round 20? Mad Men, because I don't think that show knows the meaning of the word "crappy".

What show impressed you most in 2009?
Mad Men, as always!

What show impressed you least in 2009?
It's a tie between Entourage and V. Also very disappointed with FlashForward.

What fandoms did you acquire in 2009?
Alan Rickman
Mad Men
In Treatment
Planet Earth
Cosmos

What fandoms did you let go of in 2009?
Bones. oh well. I still enjoy the first two or three seasons. but I don't keep up with current episodes anymore.
Monk. I watched the series finale and felt sad that the show is no more, but I never did catch up with what I had missed.
because this is the closest category for this, the BSG finale let me down, and I didn't like The Plan very much or the Caprica pilot. I still love what I love, though.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2009? Why?
I liked Parks and Recreation for a while but then suddenly didn't care anymore. I think I overdosed on it, watching one episode after another.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2010?
right now I'm more interested in rewatching stuff I love than in finding new stuff to try to love.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2010 unless things significantly improve?
maybe House. I'll still watch because I love Hugh Laurie, but the episodes aren't as good as they used to be.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
the "how crappy they get" part is not really applicable (unless the Hobbit movies count) (I hope the Hobbit movies won't count), but LotR and stuff related to LotR.

What show impressed you most in 2009?
Mad Men
sometimes Dollhouse

What show impressed you least in 2009?
V
sometimes Dollhouse

additional category:
I watch this because it's fun to make fun of: FlashForward

What fandoms did you acquire in 2009?
True Blood, Titus

What fandoms did you let go of in 2009?
Heroes, it was just time to end it. House, just didn't have time to keep up with it.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2009? Why?
Dollhouse, watched the first season and decided that it had it's moments, but I couldn't bring myself to care.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2010?
Fringe, I like the episodes I've seen but haven't sat down and watched the whole thing.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2010 unless things significantly improve?
Scrubs, season 8 was awesome but the new season is just ok.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Lost, because it's the last season. Dexter, because it's awesome.

What show impressed you most in 2009?
Scrubs - Season 8, True Blood

What show impressed you least in 2009?
Scrubs - Season 9

That one started out shaky, but has gotten much funnier over time. I suppose one could still catch it on a bad week (such as a Pierce-heavy episode or the one where Jack Black crashed the party), but getting to know the character quirks is a huge part of getting into this show.

Actually, the episode I saw was really funny. It just was also really stupid. There are a lot of things that make me laugh; it will take more than some guffaws to make me waste half an hour in front of the teevee.

I guess I get enough hearty laughs out of it to be able to forgive the stupid stuff. I was sold by the time they got to Troy and Abed's Spanish rap at the end of the second episode. Since then, any scene those two have together has been golden for me, and I think most of the other characters are quick-witted and highly amusing (if you ignore Chevy Chase's character).

Reviving this for 2010...

What fandoms did you acquire in 2010?
Top Gear! So awesome. How did I wait this long to start watching it? This show is amazing; I literally fell off the couch laughing at the big rig episode.

What fandoms did you let go of in 2010?
None.

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2010? Why?
Good Eats. Alton Brown is awesome, but I just haven't had the inspiration yet.

What fandoms did you check out in 2010 and reject? [I added this question]
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. A friend keeps trying to get me into this show, and I keep pushing back.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2011?
Not sure; maybe one of the other Discovery shows like Dirty Jobs. Also, another friend keeps trying to get me to watch Man vs. Food.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2011 unless things significantly improve?
None.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Virginia Tech football

What show impressed you most in 2010?
Meh

What show impressed you least in 2010?
Don't think I watched any new shows in 2010

What fandoms did you acquire in 2010?
Modern Family

What fandoms did you let go of in 2010?
The Office, because I somtimes didn't have time to watch the shows I actually still love, much less a show I had totally stopped caring about. FlashForward, because they canceled it, and also, it was terrible. Lost, because it ended, and also because it really, really pissed me off at the end (and may possibly have wasted six years of my fandom life).

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2010? Why?
Community, The Good Wife

What fandoms did you check out in 2010 and reject?
Breaking Bad- it was very well done and I understand why people and awards shows love it so much, but it just wasn't for me. Parenthood- I haaated it. And I think it was last year that I tried Fringe, but I just didn't like it at all.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2011?
Community, The Good Wife

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2011 unless things significantly improve?
None I can think of. I'm in a good fandom place right now.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Mad Men will never get crappy, so I'll never ever let go. The Vampire Diaries as long as Ian Somerhalder is on it. Survivor because after 21 seasons there's really no stopping me now.

What show impressed you most in 2010?
Mad Men, as always.

What show impressed you least in 2010?
Lost, because I expected it to impress me the most.

Same here.  Also, Ghost Hunters.

Supernatural.  It was wrapped up pretty nicely last season.  Bringing it back for another season is ruining the show, I fear.

Lost, because it ended, and also because it really, really pissed me off at the end (and may possibly have wasted six years of my fandom life).

I can understand being pissed off at the finale. But if you enjoyed the show (or at least parts of it) for the rest of that six years, I don't think the finale invalidates everything else you enjoyed.

We can discuss more in the LOST thread if you'd like.

Oh, and I enjoyed Flashforward. At times it was tedious and/or didn't make sense. But I felt that it improved significantly after returning in the spring of 2010, and was really enjoyable for me to watch through the end. Dominic Monaghan and James Callis's characters were great.
