i pre-ordered Dustin Kensrue's album from CD Universe for like $6.43 or something like that today.  i thought that sounded like a good deal.  based on the tracks i've heard on his myspace it seems like a pretty huge change from what he does with Thrice, and sounds pretty cool.

Based on what I heard in concert, it's pretty cliche and boring, which I guess is a huge change from what he does with Thrice.

lyrically or musically?  musically i didn't think it sounded cliche at all, but i didn't really pay attention to the lyrics.  i like Thrice, a lot, but i like his solo sound a lot too.   i thought for $6.64 it was definitely worth taking a chance on, b/c if i don't like it, i'm not out much.

This should probably be moved to a separate discussion thread, but yeah, I meant lyrically. It sounded very much like the typical "I've crossed over to a Christian audience, so I have to hit them up with familiar themes and descriptions and song titles so there'll be no controversy over where I stand." I hate it when a talented mainstream artist feels the need to do that.

Musically, I can't judge all that well because it was just Dustin and an acoustic guitar. If the recorded music has a little more meat on its bones then it could potentially be more interesting... but I'm still not expecting it to be anywhere near as inventive as Thrice.
