I notice that you write your poetry using a lot of song form, which can be good. I guess it kind of figures Smiley

Yeah, they're songs without music. That's the poetry I'm most familiar with.

When I first started writing poetics I did a lot of that too... stuff that you could kind of take and put to music with a little bit of effort. Of course, there are some song elements that just can't be carried over to the spoken word, like a lot of the repetition and phrase snippets that modern music is full of. Considering that a song has music to carry it, and meaningless repeats and half-formed sentences and stuff like looks amatuerish when a poem is requited to carry itself without the help of music.

ps: another good reason to like hymns is that a lot of them have very good poetry *and* very good music... they sort of display the best of both worlds.

pss: If I could suggest something to all potential and existing poets: punctuation. It helps the reading of a poem and the interpretation (if needed).
