11. "Ice", Lights
I'm not sure if I should consider Lights a guilty pleasure or not, but if she is a guilty pleasure, she's one of my favorites.

I go back and forth. I think some of her lyrics show depth. But the overall sound is this weird blend of DIY and teenybopper. An entire album of her vocordered voice isn't as easy to get through as it is with Owl City. Lights was actually the only "new" artist to appear on this mix. I'm hungry.

It took a little getting used to, but I enjoy her album quite a bit. It's got a child-like innocence to it without being totally corny. If you're hungry for newer artists, I recommend States and All The Day Holiday.

States are much more upbeat than Copeland, and they have a female singer with a beautiful voice. They actually remind me more of Metric than Copeland. You can download the All The Day Holiday album at this link http://www.mediafire.com/?5oj3z5ddzm5. The band wanted everyone to share the album with their friends, so thankfully, I can share this album with a guilt free conscience.

Could be intriguing, though I already think Metric's sound is somewhat derivative. But they make catchy songs. So we'll see. Thanks for the linkage!

I just burned my "Best of 2010" Mix earlier today. Here's the track listing:
Disc 1: Triple A/Hot AC 1. "The Reckoning (How Long)" Andrew Peterson 2. "Fade Like a Shadow" KT Tunstall 3. "Next to Me" Sleeping at Last 4. "Eyes Wide Open" Jars of Clay 5. "Beauty Will Rise" Steven Curtis Chapman 6. "God's Hometown" Caedmon's Call 7. "Numbers Don't Lie" The Mynabirds 8. "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" The Reign of Kindo 9. "Let You Go" The Rocket Summer 10. "Speaking a Dead Language" Joy Williams 11. "Change of Time" Josh Ritter 12. "It's Me" Sara Groves 13. "Until There is No More Tomorrow" Justin McRoberts 14. "Let Us Love" NEEDTOBREATHE 15. "Something in the Water" Brooke Fraser 16. (Bonus Track): "Shady Esperanto and the Young Hearts" Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers 17. (Bonus Track): "Brielle" Sky Sailing
Disc 2: Rock/Alternative 1. "Neverender" The Fold 2. "A Silver Lining" We Shot The Moon 3. "Impossible" Anberlin 4. "Dive In" Jennifer Knapp 5. "Disappearing World" Fair 6. "On Yer Bike!" Kevin Max 7. "This Road" Seabird 8. "God Save The Foolish Kings" House of Heroes 9. "The Sound (John M. Perkins' Blues)" Switchfoot 10. "Uprising" Muse 11. "Too Much" Sufjan Stevens 12. "Cages" Deas Vail 13. "A Memory, The Melody" Mae 14. "Jena & Jimmy" Derek Webb 15. "Get There" Robert Randolph & The Family Band 16. (Bonus Track): "Break Me Out" The Rescues 17. Interestingly enough, the leadoff tracks on both CDs are both closing songs on their respective CDs. I think this is the first time I've done that on my "Best of..." compilations.

These songs will likely be on my "2010 in a Nutshell" mix as well. 3. "Next to Me" Sleeping at Last 4. "Eyes Wide Open" Jars of Clay 5. "Beauty Will Rise" Steven Curtis Chapman 11. "Too Much" Sufjan Stevens
These artists will probably also appear, but with other songs. I'm still working it out. 2. "Fade Like a Shadow" KT Tunstall (my pick: "Difficulty") 6. "God's Hometown" Caedmon's Call (my pick: "Miss You") 8. "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" The Reign of Kindo (my pick: "Thrill of the Fall", but honestly, throw a dart and you'll hit a great song on this disc) 11. "Change of Time" Josh Ritter (my pick: "The Curse", though "Change" was initially my favorite) 3. "Impossible" Anberlin (my pick: "Pray Tell") 4. "Dive In" Jennifer Knapp (my pick: Inside") 6. "On Yer Bike!" Kevin Max (my pick: "Out of the Wild") 8. "God Save The Foolish Kings" House of Heroes (my pick: "Salt in the Sea") 13. "A Memory, The Melody" Mae (my pick: "Sleep Well/Good (e)vening", since (m)orning came out last year and I picked "Night/Day" then)
These songs were on my "2009 in a Nutshell" mix. 10. "Uprising" Muse 12. "Cages" Deas Vail
Interestingly enough, the leadoff tracks on both CDs are both closing songs on their respective CDs. I think this is the first time I've done that on my "Best of..." compilations. I do that a lot on my personal mixes - basically whenever an album closes with something epic and up-tempo, I tend to think "Hey, that might work as an opener." This as goes as far back as "Mind's Eye" by dc Talk. More recently, Muse's "Knights of Cydonia" proved to be an awesome opener, as I've heard it has been at some of their concerts. I have a personal rule that my mixes are not allowed the open with track #1 from any album, or close with an album's last track. I unknowingly cheated on this recently when I closed a mix with Doves' "Caught by the River" (which is last on The Last Broadcast, but penultimate on their best-of disc, which is where I knew it from at the time). This is going to make things weird if I ever put "Impossible Soul" on a mix - what song would even work after that?

Damn. Just when I was getting into them. I guess they can go on my list of "One-Album Wonders". I was struggling between "Autumn" and "Real Time" for this mix. "Real Time" will probably end up on my first mix of 2011. It seemed wrong to postpone the inclusion of "Autumn", due to the time of year and that being the song that first piqued my interest. (Also, my planned cover image for Disc One is a tree displaying fall colors.) Several other tracks from them will probably follow on later mixes - they made a solid album.

I'm glad you like it! "Autumn" was the first song from that album that I fell in love with, but at some point "Flowers and Fireworks" really hit me, and now I consider F&F one of my five all-time favorites.

F&F is a standout to me as well. I was playing through the album on Audiosurf the other day, and much to my surprise, not only had someone else played through the album, but they had scores that were actually pretty tough for me to beat. " Flowers & Fireworks" is the one where I haven't attained the high score yet. ("Autumn" and "Real Time" are fun as hell in that game.) Another favorite of mine is "Cities".

I see NinjaRob on the scoreboards every now and then. Be warned that it's addictive. I've played it most days for the last year or so, just because it's something active to do while listening to music, that forces me to focus on the music. it's really helpful when I need to do a deep listen to something before reviewing it. (Of course, if I keep jacking up on a track and having to start over, I can get the first few minutes of it stuck in my head for days.)

I usually steer clear of video games because I don't want to become addicted, but when it involves listening to music, which is something I spend so much time doing anyways, it'll probably be alright..

Just don't be a perfectionist and I'm sure you'll be fine. My big problem is that I keep playing that one difficult song just one more time because I know I can snag that high score, and then someone else turns around and beats it the next day and there I go all over again. I made a project of going back and surfing through all the songs on my personal soundtracks. These things go as far back as 1994, so needless to say, it's taking me a while. It's fun to find out that there's actually competition on the occasional obscure song.

March/April mix. his is the longest one to date, nearly maxing out the capacity of both discs. I would blame Sufjan, but there were a few other excessively long tracks that also made the cut (Iron & Wine at 7 minutes, and Elbow and a combined two tracks from Arcade Fire at 8 minutes and change each), which all got shunted to Disc One to make room for the 25-minute Sufjan song.
DISC ONE 1. "Ghost of Days Gone By", Alter Bridge 2. "We Owe This to Ourselves", Anberlin 3. "Bloom", Radiohead 4. "You Know You're Good (La La La Song)", Fiction Plane 5. "Discoverer", R.E.M. 6. "When We First Met", Hellogoodbye 7. "Indecision", Steven Page 8. "Good Intentions", Paper Route 9. "Standing on the Shore", Empire of the Sun 10. "The Birds", Elbow 11. "Pacific", Sleeping at Last 12. "Bad Luck Heels", DeVotchKa 13. "Bedouin Dress", Fleet Foxes 14. "Your Fake Name Is Good Enough for Me", Iron & Wine 15. "Theon, the Fox", The River Empires 16. "Half Light I & II", Arcade Fire 17. "Resurrection", The Temper Trap
DISC TWO 1. "Blackout", Linkin Park 2. "Disappear", House of Heroes 3. "Fade Like a Shadow", KT Tunstall 4. "The Valley", Eisley 5. "Hit the Bottom", Sherwood 6. "Out of Sight, Out of Mind", The Reign of Kindo 7. "Out of Goodbyes", Maroon5 feat. Lady Antebellum 8. "Vaporize", Broken Bells 9. "We All Are Dancing", Yoav 10. "Impossible Soul", Sufjan Stevens 11. "The Laugh of Recognition", Over the Rhine 12. "Dancing in the Minefields", Andrew Peterson 13. "Tethered", Sleeping at Last 14. "Flowers and Fireworks", All the Day Holiday 15. You did, and it's what got me to notice the track as one of the album highlights.

You saw them all in concert, eh? Have I ever mentioned that I kinda hate you? Then again, I did happen to travel all the way to Illinois to see all three of them. Furthermore, if you took out my trip to Cornerstone Festival, my concert-going last year actually looked quite pathetic. It seemed when somebody I wanted to see came to South Louisiana last year, I had a schedule conflict. Yet I was able to clear my schedule in July to head up to Cornerstone. Funny how that works sometimes.

Louisiana isn't the concert haven that Los Angeles is; I'll give you that. So you can't be blamed for hating me most of the time.
Still, there are a lot of Midwestern/East Coast-based acts that never make it this far west, so I'm still jealous when others get to see them. That's what I get for digging deeper than mainstream radio, I guess. Not everyone is popular enough to mount nationwide tours.

I have a few mixes that have been taken down from mediafire due to inactivity, but I could re-up if anyone is interested. The mixes I have: sun-worn blues rock, crisp midnight ambient, drunken cock-rock, a 3-hour ambient jazz epic, all-purpose indie from dubstep to jazz, and a lengthy chaotic wtf-mix. Let me know if you're interested and I'll up any of those. I try to use mostly unknown artists to make them a bit more fun, but there's a big name or two per mix.
