It's nice to see some more writing done inside the universe that JRR Tolkien created. However, I am a little worried that since it's his son, he will be trying to take ownership of it rather than just contribute to the body of work. However, we shall see, and I know I'm going to be checking it out.

It sounds like he's done his research. So it's a prequel to LOTR? As opposed to the unfinished sequal?

Well, Christopher is the one who finished all the other books after his dad died so this is no surprise.

It's a bit of a surprise in that this is a more major work than anything (except arguably the Silmarillion) than the other unfinished and unreleased Tolkien books which were released.

I got this book in the mail last week (had it pre-ordered on Amazon). I'm currently about 60% done with a thousand-pager, but once I get that out of the way then I'm really looking forward to it.
