The cat reminds me of these kitties:

Mostly due to the "I will only tolerate this until you get within clawing distance" look.

Edit: modified the pix to be less freaking huge

...a *special* hell...

I'm not above trying to place things on the cats (and I only do so when they're relaxed and too lazy to run away at the sight of me approaching with Strange Things in my evil clutches), but I draw the line at trying to stuff them into sweater-type things, especially costumes.

pineapple kitteh made me think of this cat with a punkinhead hat. (not my photo. or cat. or punkinhead hat.)

in an attempt to keep this post semi on topic, here are some socks I made. the pattern was inspired by Fred and George Weasley.

I'm about to "make" one last research paper.  However, I am currently making an amazing display of procrastination.  I CAN'T CONCENTRATE.

I have senioritis and I'm only a sophomore...

Hehe. Pretty scarf..

and it looks exactly like your pips.

I'm not procrastinating over anything, just wasting time happy

The only thing I made recently, other than trouble, was roast lamb for tea the other night and a new MySpace layout.

Oh, oh, and my new signature too.

A poem:

A soft, glaring light
The refrigerator hums anarchy
and calls the other appliances to rebellion.

"Lies!" I say to the Toaster
your facade may be White
but your heart is as Black as mine. (or the coffeemaker's)

"Of course," it replies.
"If I follow the refrigerator I will surely die.
For his way is bleak and cold
and preserves the old,
but still I cannot help you.
For you are a harsh master,
it is 4 AM,
and if your toaster speaks to you, it is time for bed."

it's cylon time!

thanks, whome? and Wildcat. Smiley

roast lamb sounds yum. (we don't have a "yum!" face, but we have two "yuck!" faces...maybe I will take the  :P face and flip the tongue and see how that looks.)

I made soup. with frozen stir-fry vegetables. which was odd; it just seemed like stir-fry vegetables floating around in chicken broth. so I cut them up with kitchen shears. and then it seemed like soup. XD

I taught my sister to read today. Actually, she already knew how to read. She just didn't want to.

But she gets it now, and is well on the way to being as crazy as me.

I'm make a little graphic story thingy for a class, the beginning of which you can see here.  I've got 4 pages done, with 8 left.  I had all the drawings done and just needed to color them, but my book disappeared from the computer lab.  When I asked the person who cleans the lab about it, she said, "Oh, I guess I saw some old papers with some rough sketches on them.  I'm supposed to throw trash away, so that's what I did with it."  Me: "..."

The thing is due Thursday, so I am working frantically to get it redrawn by then, which really isn't cool, because this is the last week of school and I have a bunch of other things due.  Mainly I'm mad that she called my drawings trash though. Sad

Fun! I made my own soap once, both liquid and solid have basically the same recipe, but I made solid. The origional soap smelt good, but I didn't wash my jar properly and it all smelt like off pickles laugh

pickle soap!

funny thing, I melted some of the soap in a jar that once held curry sauce. I don't think it still smelled like curry...but I guess I'll find out when the load of laundry is done!

I don't know much about hyperbolic planes but I remember reading that the first usable model was made with crochet. when I came across the Practically Hyperbolic Dishcloth pattern I decided to learn a bit more crochet, a little bit more math, and maybe wash a dish or two.

it's alive!

it attacks cups!

(actually I probably won't use the cloth for dishes--it seems too dangerous--but I might use it for my face.)

April was the month of finishing stuff. (I just now got around to photographing them.)

this Gryffindor bag would've been finished months ago but the crocheted border was not my friend. knit and crochet should not mix.

good thing I finished this wool sweater in time for summer.  :P I lie in wait for winter.

also the other day I made breadsticks from herb pizza dough I got from Trader Joe's. yum.

herb breadsticks sliced in half longways and slathered with cream cheese are almost the same as bagels but completely different.

the beginning of an upcoming project:

the colorway is called Miles, after the Over the Rhine song.

I plan to spin it into yarn and then knit socks.  happy

I made cookies and then I made a picture.

(I don't know why I chose to focus on that particular cookie. it got smooshed a little bit by my chomper oven mitt.)

life gave me not-enough bits of wool fiber. I spun it anyway...

...and knitted a lemon/lime/limon/leme thing with half of it.

one isn't enough for wooly limonade so it will just be decorative. I want to knit another fruit with the cream/yellow portion of the yarn but am not sure what. there's not enough for a banana...or is there?

Do you ever make things on commission? Because seriously, I would pay money for that scarf. It's lovely.

thanks! I have made a few things on commission, but they were all knitted at a larger gauge. items like this with a smaller gauge and more stitches take a lot longer to make (I was starting to call this the second scarf of doom, the first one being a Harry Potter scarf), which jacks the price higher than what people are generally willing to pay and yet doesn't pay me very well. so I kinda learned to say no, rather than devalue my time/skill and give people sticker shock at the same time.

however, the stitch is just a modified garter stitch in two colors, so it looks more complicated than what it actually is. if you know the basics of knitting you could easily knit it yourself!

That makes sense. Still, you should think about an Etsy shop. It seems there are plenty of people who shop there who are willing to pay an actual fair price for good, handmade goods.

I had signed up for etsy a couple years ago and I keep meaning to add some stuff to it and make more stuff. but apparently I get bored making the same thing more than once, and I can't bear to part with the one item I did make. :\

Do you have a pattern for the Dylan-esque scarf? I am not sure I should undertake it, as my fatal knitting flaw is impatience, but I'd love to have it on hand if I should get so bold as to attempt a more time-consuming project.

yep! basically the pattern is knit three, slip one, knit three, slip one, with a few knit stitches for a border or offset a couple of stitches to stagger the colors.

abbreviations: K = knit; sl = slip (move stitch from left needle to right needle as if to purl; do not knit or purl the stitch.)

cast on a multiple of 4 stitches + 3 stitches (e.g. 31 stitches) with color A.  then join color B and start stitch pattern.

row 1 (color B): K 3, *Sl 1, K 3*, repeat from * to * until end.

row 2 (color B): knit.

row 3 (color A): K 1, *Sl 1, K 3*, repeat from * to * until last 2 stitches, Sl 1, K 1.

row 4 (color A): knit.

repeat these 4 rows until desired length. bind off on row 4 to keep the ends the same color.

I used US size 7 needles and a light worsted weight wool/alpaca yarn, about 75 grams/165 yards of each color. my scarf is a little over 5 feet long since I like scarves to be at least as long as I am tall. seems proportionate that way, but of course it could be shorter.

I got addicted to this stitch pattern and made some cotton handtowels and potholders.

that might be a good test project to get the hang of the pattern. big enough to be something besides a swatch but not too big to finish if you find the stitch isn't fun for you.

let me know if you have any questions! also, knittinghelp.com is an excellent resource for step-by-step instructions if you need a refresher on anything. their videos are especially helpful!

I just finished an eggplant hat of my own devising.

it is based on a hat from Gilmore Girls.

I also made a fingerless glove and am working on the other one.

I had used yellow-orange food coloring to overdye the yarn--it used to be a pastel rainbow.

I'm so much happier with orange and green!
