Matchstick Men looks somewhat interesting. I thought Bulletproof Monk looked unoriginal and highly silly.

At first I thought that it looked cool, like the Matrix. Then I heard some stuff about it, and decided that it would probably be corny and dumb, with a few cool special effects thrown in. But it was better than I thought, tho the bad guy was pretty corny (you're usual crazy Nazi looking for ultimate power, complete with mind-reading torture devices).

I think both are Matrix-like, though BPM seems to be more so than Underworld.

Yeah, someone who has seen Matchstick Men needs to start a separate thread about it. I've heard nothing but good reviews for it, and I'd love to see it... right after I catch Lost in Translation!

I don't see how anything in the trailer can make you want to see that movie. Positive reviews do seem interesting, but I question whether the reviewers who liked it were actually in the right theater...

I haven't seen a single trailer for it. It's entirely possible that, if I did see the trailer, I'd change my mind.

But the reviews are all raves. And I love Bill Murray. So, for now, I'm stoked about the film.

I have to admit that my opinion changed a little after I read that he and the woman do not hava an affair, since the trailer made it seem obvious that they would. I applaud that. But I doubt Overstreet's assertion that sentimentality never comes into play and I am repulsed by the 'incidental' nudity that--much like many other films in Hollywood--sounds unnecessary.

Actually, I'd say you're probably right about the nudity. But Overstreet is very tough on sentimentality, so if he says there isn't any, I believe him.

(Actually, he DID fail to mention the sentimentality in Daredevil, but there were so many other terrible things in that movie that it can be hard to keep track of them).

Underworld has the black leather, the neo-gothic atmosphere, and the guns. BPM has the mythical bullet-dodging and metababble. I guess it's a tossup.

The previews for Bulletproof Monk made it look more like Crouching Tiger than The Matrix, but I haven't actually seen the film. And, while Crouching Tiger is a much better film than the Matrix, I don't really care what BPM is ripping off; a copycat film is a copycat film, and I don't like 'em no matter which movie they're stealing from.

It was on TV here, but it was dubbed, and frankly I prefer subtitles to dubbing. The library has it on DVD but whenever I go to check it out it's already been taken by someone else.

I have Crouching Tiger on DVD, Vlad!, so, if nothing else, you can borrow it when you're next in town. I can already tell that there are parts that you won't like (namely the ending), but you'll be hard-pressed to find a film with more exhilirating action sequences.

It's the rare movie that has no parts I don't like, but it is a shame that the ending might be one. Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing it, either here or at home.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is cool, but I didn't like the ending.  I watched it with subtitles, which I think is better, since the whole sound of the Mandarin Chinese language just goes so well with the movie.  Its worth seeing, Rokran, but its probably not near as action packed of you are expecting.

Crouching Tiger has amazing action sequences, and, unlike The Matrix, first-rate performances and great storytelling. It's also got a beautiful soundtrack (featuring Yo-Yo Ma) and gorgeous cinemetography.

The ending is... interesting. Personally, I like it; it's extremely open-ended and leaves a lot of room for discussion and interpretation. And I might be wrong about Vlad!'s opinion of it; I'm just hypothesizing, based on what I know of his tastes.

With an ending, I don't want open endedness, I want closure.  But thats just me.

I like weird, open-ended sci-fi short stories, so maybe CTHD would be right up my alley.

Ok, now Bulletproof Monk is the last movie I saw. Interesting and pretty funny, but not the best movie I have seen.

I saw Cabin Fever this afternoon.  It was extremely... entertaining, I guess is the best word.  It reminded me of the horror heydays of the 70s and 80s.

Saw "The Core" last night. It was ok, if a bit unbelievable. The fact that "Mission Control" has a way to monitor the earth's core in real-time and communicate with the "terranauts" down there was strange.

I also watched the Core on the weekend.  Those "americans saving the world" movies are getting worse and worse.  How in the world could they communicate with them from the center of the earth?  I can't even get a decent satellite signal at my house!

And I watched Dogma a couple days ago with a bunch of Catholics - that was the hardest I'd laughed in a while.  "Does that make you part black?"  hehe.

They would make more "Canadians saving the world" movies, but the horses and buggies kept catching fire before they got to the center of the earth ^_^

The last movie I saw was "Daddy Day Care," which was much better than I was expecting it to be. Eddie Murphy is funny without being extremely crude like he is in most of his movies. Overall, a really funny and clean movie.

Sweet. That's a great movie. Also, Gary Jules' cover of Mad World (better than the Tears for Fears version, IMO) gets stuck in my head for days. Great song for an awesome movie ^_^  [--Donie Darko phanboy

I watched "The Road to Morocco" last night (did I spell that right?). An old black-and-white with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. Extremely funny. I like the way they bring real life into the story. For example, one of the song lyrics goes "though we may meet many enemies, we have no fears. Paramount will protect us, because we're signed for 5 more years." I love that kind of stuff.  =D  laugh
