Anyway, back on topic: Finally done with midterms, so I headed over to Blockbuster after school in search of some movie relaxation materials. I picked up "Holes," which I loved! The traielrs for this looked bad to me, and I thought it was just another of Disney's "should have stayed on the Disney channel pieces of junk." But then my older sister recommended it to me, and she would never go for something like that. And then, I heard someone else compare it to the sacred The Goonies, so I had been dying to rent this. I was not disappointed! I loved how the action went back and forth in time and all the stories wove together. I loved the character of Kissing Kate and could watch a whole movie about her. I'm jealous; midterms are raging right now for me. I've been wanting to see Holes as well. I was something of a Louis Sachar fan (Sachar wrote the book that the movie is based off), so that was a plus. The plot sounded kind of stupid, but enough people say it's great that I want to give it a shot sometime.

I thought I'd hate Holes but I ended up loving it. But, since my favorite movie is Father of the Bride, I suppose I don't have much credibility as a film critic...

yep, i've seen waiting for guffman many a time. it's my favorite of all the mockumentaries by that crew. actually, i'd already seen best in show, a mighty wind, and about a boy. i've been rewatching lots of movies this month for some reason...besides the french ones, the only ones on that list i hadn't seen before are the lizzie mcguire movie and rivers and tides.

just finished watching Immortal Beloved (required for music class). even though Beethoven's life is fictionalized and dramatized for the movie, I think the film effectively gives the viewer an idea of the tempestuousness and tragedy in his life, whoever the real Immortal Beloved was.

Hmmm... about a month ago I went through and deleted all the old reviews that I thought were crappy (mostly my own), but I could have sworn I left Shawshank on there. I certainly intended to. Apologies, Vlad! I'll add that one back, because I'm pretty sure it wasn't crappy...

Hey, it's not my fault that I liked it No, but it is your fault that you spent two or three paragraphs talking about the conditions under which you saw the film and, like, two setences about the movie itself.

I was trying to explain why, even though I normally don't like overly sentimental movies, this one hit me right Anyway, steering the topic away from my less-than-informative review, I still haven't seen any new movies...alas.

I can only know about the story from what I've been told. I watched that movie in the dollar theater, and the sound wasn't loud/high quality enough for me to hear more than three lines of dialogue in the whole movie. I had no idea what was going on. The part with the fortune teller and the pig was especially confusing when you were just going by visuals. I want to rent this movie and watch it on our nice, great sounding home theater system.

I had borrowed Pulp Fiction since I have heard so much about how great it is. watched it last night. don't get what the point of it is. a lot of ugly hairstyles and ugly language and ugly violence and bizarre, dark humor. I suppose that to really understand what is going on, a person has to watch it more than once, but I don't care enough about it to do so.

I knew it was loosely about redemption, but this gave my thoughts a little more form.

usually I like to read stuff like that about the imagery in movies but that essay seems to be too much of a stretch for me. Mia's overdose as an analogy to Christ's death and resurrection? okay... the article was interesting though.

Maximum Velocity. all I gotta say is ouch. Poor special effects, poor story, poor acting, poor thinking (IE: On a pod thing, the controls went out. They had to use the manual overide on the *outside* which they couldn't reach. ), and poor producing. Other than that, it was a great movie! =D

I don't know about the specifics, but I do know that he got the basic concept of the movie down perfectly, particularly the redemption of Jules vs. the continuing downward spiral of Vincent.

at first the way Jules quoted that verse struck me as horribly blasphemous, and I didn't think it was even a verse in the Bible (which it isn't), but at the end when he realized what was what, I was like wow, that's pretty cool.
the last movie I saw was Joe the King. a lot of swearing and just about all the grownups need to be knocked on the head for treating the kids the way they do, but it was pretty good.

i just watched "sliding doors" with good ol' chris-martin-stealing-gwyneth-paltrow. (i don't hate her, i promise...) anyway, the movie was intriguing, but the whole time i kept thinking of how great it had the potential to be. if it were only tweaked in a few places, it would be a great movie. has anyone seen it?

Last movie I saw was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I hadn't seen this movie for quite some time. I found I enjoyed it, especially Mr. Wonka himself. The characters in the movie seem very overboard and slightly disturbing, but that's part of the movie's charm, I think.
