I was not sold on The Big Bang Theory at first. It grew on me after a while, though. I particularly enjoy "Sheldon".

He's the breakout character of the show, and whether you find his total obliviousness and condescending nature amusing or infuriating will probably determine whether you love or hate the show. They overuse him at some points, so I think the show found its equilibrium when they found better ways to use the supporting cast (Howard and especially Raj can be really funny with the right subplot to set them up), and added more women to the proceedings, to give Penny some nerdy friends to hang out with so that she could have storylines independently of the guys if necessary.

I ended up finishing season 1 after all. my access to the internet was dead. (this explains nothing and everything at the same time.)

That was supposed to be my clever way of asking whether you were going to continue with the series. (I think you have more than enough information to make a sound judgment either way at this point.)

Source Code
I loved Duncan Jones' directorial debut in Moon, and though it's certainly its own film, Source Code contains a few of the same thematic elements. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the lead brilliantly, and though this second effort feels much more mainstream and feature-friendly, it isn't a flashy teal-and-orange blockbuster by any means.
I'm still processing the film to some extent, but on the whole I'd say that I liked it. I was hoping to come away with more questions, as part of the enjoyment of Moon was discussing it with my friends, but it was certainly worth a watch.

The ads are making Source Code look like it's action first, ask questions later. I guess it's easier to advertise action than philosophy, but either way, I'm only gonna see this if I can be sure there's something much more intriguing to the story.
Of course, I avoided Inception in theaters for the same reason, and later regretted that, as it became the film everyone seemed to be talking about, and thus very difficult to avoid spoilers while waiting for the DVD. Arguably, that was a film where it was better to go in having no idea what it was about. But it's hard to justify dropping $10+ on a movie you know nothing about, other than that it has cool special effects.

I ended up watching the Big Bang Theory episode that Michael Trucco appeared in. I hadn't seen him since he pulled a River Tam and became a spaceship, haha. too bad the show didn't make reference to him and BSG. anyway, I looked up the show's page on tvtropes to help me figure out what exactly I like and don't like about it. (this is a very scientific method.) The shows humor can be divided into three categories: obscure references to physics or Geek culture..., every nerd stereotype the writers can think of..., and the culture clash between Penny and the guys. ...As for the show's drama and overarching plot, most of that relies on UST between Leonard and Penny. The series almost runs on Give Geeks A Chance. I like the obscure references to geek culture (the ones I understand, anyway) but dislike/am annoyed by/don't care about everything else, especially the Give Geeks a Chance trope. however. the tvtropes page lists so many tropes that I kind of want to keep watching just because of this. so maybe I'll watch more, if I don't get distracted by something else in the meantime.

It's an action movie sort of in the same way that The Fugitive or Blade Runner is an action movie: it has action in it, but it's really in support of something greater rather than an end in itself.

Arthur. I thought it'd be kind of stupid (which parts of it were), but the wife wanted to see it, and it turned out to be an amusing enough way to spend two hours. Russell Brand wasn't overly obnoxious, and was actually quite funny at times. I'm convinced that Helen Mirren can sell anything - I started the movie thinking she was slumming it, and finished the movie convinced that she elevated the material.

It's just crazy that they decided to remake the movie and take out the booze aspect of the character which made Dudley Moore's role so great in the original.

Interesting. Some of the reviews I heard/listened to said that it wasn't a big part of the movie. lies and propaganda!

I haven't seen the original - we were planning on Netflixing it soon for comparison. So maybe it was a lot more pronounced in the Dudley Moore version. But I'd say alcohol has a reasonably large impact on the plot, to the point where a few pivotal scenes take place at AA meetings.

apparently I watched all of season 2 of The Big Bang Theory. omg Christine Baranski as Leonard's mom! and did they tone down Sheldon a bit, or have I just gotten used to him? (or both...or neither...)

You got used to him. I think they toned him up. (Hell, by season 4, he's probably the least annoying of the male characters in spite of this.) Leonard's mom is priceless. I love the rapport between her and Sheldon. They need to bring her back more often (she reappears once in Season 3). It would be even awesomer if the moms could meet. (Leonard's and Sheldon's, that is. I never want to see Howard's mom on screen.)

also watched the Mission Impossible mask episode of Mythbusters. well, I skipped the shooting-at-a-merry-go-round segments.

I've added one new show this year that I'm hooked on. AMC's The Killing.
It's not for everyone. It's relentlessly dark (though there is some black humor to lighten things a TINY bit). But if you are a fan of mysteries, this is a great one. Even more impressive than the actual mystery is the way the show really examines the impact a killing has on three groups - the detectives investigating the murder (one is supposed to be on her last day, the other new to the homicide beat); the parents and family (their grief is examined in a way I've only seen in movies, never on TV); and a candidate for Mayor of Seattle (we're still not sure how or if he's involved in the murder, but there must be some tie....).

Cop Out (lol Tracy Morgan) Megamind John Tucker Must Die SNL Best of Will Ferrell 2 SNL Tribute to Chris Farley
and, the two best movies i watched this week...Scream and Scream 4. You think I'm kidding, and I'm really not. Scream is still hilarious and a little bit scary, and Scream 4 runs in that vein without being a total repeat. Although it is very meta. But still, a good time and WAY better than I was expecting.
...yeah, can you tell it's finals time? But on that note, I'm about to take on this Contracts final like it's Ghostface and I'm Sidney Prescott, sooo...winning?

He's funny when the writing's good. Which means he needs to stick to 30 Rock and ride that train until it runs out of track. Saw The King's Speech today. I expected phenomenal, capital-A acting, and neither Colin Firth nor Geoffrey Rush disappointed there. What caught me by surprise it that it was so genuinely funny despite not really being written as a comedy.

I finished the fourth and final season of Everybody Hates Chris this past weekend. Very funny show, but I could tell they were running out of steam toward the end, with half of Chris Rock's narration simply being phoned-in lines that parroted what onscreen characters were just about to say anyway. That, and they wasted a good opportunity in the finale, where they could have shown us the transition from Chris the awkward teenager into Chris the comedian, all because they apparently thought it would be hilarious to parody the ending of The Sopranos two years after the fact. Oh well, I'm glad stuck with the show despite its faults. One of the better sitcoms in recent years to not air on NBC.
