Yeah, it's another list thread. Sorry. But I thought it might be helpful to list CDs that we are interested in actually buying, just on the offchance that someone else here has a copy they'd like to get rid of. Not that I can't find a lot of this stuff cheap on Amazon or Half.com, but if I can help one of you to get something off your hands that you don't want, that's worth a few extra bucks.
So, here's what I want:
Really Want to Get My Own Copy Soon: Bjork - Volta Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank Wavorly - Conquering the Fear of Flight
Nice to Have, But I Can Wait for a Reasonable Price (preferably under $10): Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs Barenaked Ladies - Barenaked Ladies Are Men Barenaked Ladies - Gordon Downhere - Wide-Eyed and Mystified Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Dream Theater - Train of Thought The Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat Five Iron Frenzy - Electric Boogaloo Sara Groves - Station Wagon Joe Henry - Tiny Voices The Innocence Mission - Birds of My Neighborhood Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days Iron & Wine - Woman King EP Iron & Wine/Calexico - In the Reins EP Ron Sexsmith - Time Being Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche Derek Webb - The Ringing Bell Matt Wertz - Everything in Between Weird Al Yankovic - Straight Outta Lynwood
Will Only Buy If It's Dirt Cheap (i.e. less than $5): All Together Separate - Unusual Chevelle - This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In Chevelle - Vena Sera Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos Everyday Sunday - Stand Up The Fiery Furnaces - EP Sara Groves - Add to the Beauty Hellogoodbye - Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams The Juliana Theory - Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat Mat Kearney - Bullet Toby Mac - Portable Sounds Model Engine - The Lean Years Tradition Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill Acoustic Jason Mraz - Mr. A-Z Newsboys - Go Charlie Peacock - Love Life Plus One - Exodus John Reuben - Hindsight Sanctus Real - Fight the Tide Stabbing Westward - Stabbing Westward Starfield - Beauty in the Broken Superchic[k] - Karaoke Superstars Superchic[k] - Last One Picked Rob Thomas - Something to Be Train - Drops of Jupiter U2 - Boy Sean Watkins - Blinders On Derek Webb - Mockingbird
Will Buy on the Spot as Soon as It Comes Out: Caedmon's Call - Overdressed David Crowder Band - Remedy Over the Rhine - The Trumpet Child KT Tunstall - Drastic Fantastic

Wavorly - Conquering the Fear of Flight
I was happy to see you liking this album. It has grown on me little by little into one of my favorite debuts of the year. "Tale of the Dragons Defeat" is probably the best song on the albums. The strings, the time signature changes, the frantic drumming at the end, and sudden stops and starts make it a real standout. I also love "Madmen" (especially with that awesome orchestral lead-in), "Summer Song" (one of the best love songs I've heard in awhile), and "Praise and Adore" (my favorite "worship song" of the year). All in all, an album that has me excited about their future.

All in all, an album that has me excited about their future. I hadn't even heard a lick of their music before downloading their album - I simply read a positive review on CT and it sounded like my kind of thing. (Not sure where they got the Killers comparison, though.) I really like how these guys can come up with a pretty string interlude that mimics the guitar riff or vocal melody from the song that follows or precedes it. They rock, too. I do have difficulty telling some of the songs apart, but that's become less of an issue over time. My personal favorite is "Summer Song", for sentimental reasons, but I wouldn't point to that one as a place for someone else to start. "Tale of the Dragon's Defeat" and "Madmen" are among my favorites as well, and I also really like "Part One" and "Forgive and Forget". In terms of artistic accomplishment, though, that closing suite (the interlude before 'Dragon's Defeat" up through the end) is tough to beat. I detest "Praise and Adore". It's so cliche, it doesn't fit in with the album at all on a musical level, and it sounds like a cheap gambit to get Christian radio to play a song from album they otherwise wouldn't touch. I actually like it for the one line, "and some live without it." While simple, that's a really powerful phrase to me. Seeing the wonder of God in the world and in my life, sometimes it really is baffling to think that some live without it.

I actually like it for the one line, "and some live without it." There's a whole rest of the song, you know. And that's to say nothing of the generic music. While simple, that's a really powerful phrase to me. Seeing the wonder of God in the world and in my life, sometimes it really is baffling to think that some live without it. The song doesn't really go into any sort of insightful depth on the topic, though. Any Christian artist can state truth; it takes talent to state it in a creative way.

Well, I guess I'll just sit across the country and be in disagreement. And we'll both go home and live our lives anyway! I feel the same way about this song as I do "Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet" by Jars of Clay. They don't go into any great detail about why His blood hasn't failed them, but it is still powerful. Sometimes, I like to fill in the blanks with my own experiences, and these two songs are examples of that.

Well, I guess I'll just sit across the country and be in disagreement. And we'll both go home and live our lives anyway! Not that it would be any different if you lived next door to me, but OK. It's kind of like how I feel about "Summer Song". That's a fairly vague love song that just happens to be really pretty and hit my special sweet spot; for most folks, it might not do much for them. There's a difference between what we're drawn to personally and what we can defend critically. I don't think "Praise and Adore" is defensible in the latter sense. "Jesus' Blood" might be, given the piece that the Jars of Clay version was based on and its history, and how it is given context by the songs around it on the album (same thing with "Sing", which gets slagged by some Jars of Clay fans, but which I really like). I still hate it, but I get its reason for being there. "Praise and Adore" is just out of place, though. It belongs on a MercyMe album or something. it's really jarring, nestled in between some fairly solid rock songs (the other ballads kind of are, too, but since those are better songs, I don't mind so much).

Now there's a "WTF?"-worthy statement if I've ever seen one. 10 bucks says you won't like "Praise and Adore".

I like it in much the same way as I like some older simple hymns. It's profound on reflection, but not in itself.

I like it in much the same way as I like some older simple hymns. It's profound on reflection, but not in itself. Fair enough. Which is why something like "Jesus' Blood" would never work as a radio single. Now, if such a song was your first radio single from your debut album, what would that lead people to believe about your band? (This is actually the crux of my problem with a lot of modern worship songs. When just played casually with the focus on the song itself, they can become trite and lose meaning. But I find that I warm up to a great many of them when they start to get incorporated into Sunday services. That's helped me out with about 10 different Chris Tomlin songs - many of which I like, but still wouldn't want to hear on the radio adnauseum.) NP: "Rocket", Mae

Actually, I was very curious as to what was so good about Wavorly's album in the first place. I'll admit the only song I had heard from them was "Praise and Adore" and I immediately dismissed them as just another cookie cutter worship rock band. (Murlough, I think that in a way answers your last question.) I'm glad to hear the rest of their album is nothing like that. I also went to their myspace page earlier today, listened to "Madmen" and actually liked it, so I'll give them another chance. However, that blah first single did cause me to write them off prematurely.

Oh, whatever seems fair to you. If you have something you're willing to trade that'd be cool. Or it's going for $7.00 used on Amazon, does that seem sound like a good price?

As long as it's in good condition, sure. I'm assuming it would be since it's only about a year old. Does Amazon charge so much shipping because that's what the shipping actually costs, or are they jacking it up a bit? 'Cause that's always the one downside to buying used stuff online.

The Brothers Martin: self-titled
I'd just download the six Ronnie-lead songs and skip the Jason ones at iTunes, and leave it at that.

Not all of them are great, but the least of them is at least "good". I can't say close to the same about Jason's contributions...I like "Get The Money", but I wouldn't spend money on it, heh. The other three stink....

I wouldn't say stink, but I wouldn't say his best work though. I downloaded this before the album came out so I didn't even spend money on it.
