Press release:

Quote
Universal Republic Records has signed Florida rock band Anberlin, it was announced yesterday by Monte Lipman, President of Universal Republic Records. The five-member Anberlin, cited by many critics as an indispensable ‘staple of the modern rock scene,’ have independently released 3 full-length albums since their launch nearly six years ago. “Anberlin has been able to build one of the most enthusiastic followings online and across the country by remaining faithful to their music and their fans,” stated Mr. Lipman. “They represent the boldest and the brightest on the rock horizon and we welcome them to the Universal Republic family.” Originally from the Orlando area, Anberlin’s combined releases have sold more than 350,000 albums through their founding label Tooth & Nail Records, with their most recent album, Cities, debuting on Billboard’s Top Albums chart in February of this year at #19. The disc has also soared past the 100,000 indie-sales milestone, fueled by their riveting first single “Godspeed.” Known for an intricately connected digital fan network and relentless touring with top rock attractions such as Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Yellowcard, and others, Anberlin has been hailed for mixing tinges of provocative, hard-edged rock with their own trademark bombast, as well as frontman Stephen Christian’s evocative vocal style and searching lyrics. Recognized in a recent article by a Gainseville, FL scribe as one of the south’s more promising rising bands, Anberlin’s signature imprint on this summer’s popular Warped Tour cast them in the national spotlight as one of the most vital new bands to emerge from the entire indie rock scene. Their much anticipated Universal Republic Records debut is scheduled for a mid 2008 release.

the distribution aspect of that is very cool.  the fact that there is a new album in mid-2008 is cool, if it is an entirely new album and not a part new, part remixed or repackaged or re-recorded stuff like so many bands seem to do when they sign with a more major type label.

This is good news, as long as they don't pull a Mae and dumb down their sound. I'll put 'em on my "See You in 2008" list.
