I finally saw it last night. Wow, what a great movie. I think I'll buy this one. Barebones DVDs suck though... [_[

Yeah, what's up with the meager DVD extras?

But I agree, great film. One of my favorites. It raises interesting questions about reality and illusion, and is much more effective than The Matrix, in my opinion. Jim Carrey's finest movie, even if it isn't quite his bag.

Possible spoilers ahead I suppose........Yeah, at first I thought it was just a serious version of EdTV, but when it occurred to me that he didn't know he was on the TV show, that was when it really got interesting. And when he realized that not only was he on TV, but his ENTIRE reality was nothing but an act, that was pretty heartbreaking. Also, the ending, although pretty funny, was pretty telling...accurate portrayal of society...

Props for whoever came up with the story.  That was original.

Yes, you do. I find The Truman Show to have a lot to say about the world without coming across as pompous, arrogant, or preachy. I certainly agree with Josh that it beats Carrey's usual shtick hands-down.

This has long been one of my favorite movies. My favorite part in Truman is all the people who get on the show to tell Truman he's on TV and then they get dragged off.  =D  Before Truman Show I seriously disliked Jim Carrey and told people, "You couldn't drag me to see anything he's in!"  But someone did drag me, and I walked out of there a new Jim Carrey fan.  Between this one, The Majestic, and Bruce Almighty , I think Jim Carrey is actually one of my favorite actors now!

I love movies that you get so attached to when you find out something earth shattering something inside you shatters too... The Matrix and The Truman Show are the only two I can think of that it's happened to me... but there could be more.

And btw... The Truman Show came out before Ed TV, if I'm not mistaken...

Truman is one of my favorites, too.  I had never seen anything like it when I first saw it.  I think its amazing how it fits humor and sadness and all sorts of emotions in at the same time.  See it right now if you haven't seen it yet, you won't regret it!

I think they came out around the same time, but I do remember seeing a commercial for EdTV and thinking "hey, that looks like a Truman ripoff!"

And yeah, the emotions it evokes are wonderful...its humor keeps it from being too heavy-handed, while its meaningfulness will keep it with you long after you've forgotten most of Carrey's movies. I actually haven't seen The Majestic or Bruce Almighty, but Truman proves that Carrey has the talent to pull a thought-provoking and respectful (though still funny) movie.
