Free music is good.  This one is downloadable from their myspace.

Linky

Just solid, fun, indie-rock.  I think most here would enjoy it.

Radiohead is well-known - post other free discoveries (that won't get you or the website sued) in this thread if you wish.

If you browse through the All Songs Considered podcasts, you'll see that they have an Iron & Wine concert.  It should be worth a listen.

The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust, Saul Williams

You can choose to buy it for $5 (in flac, 320 kbps, or 192 kbps mp3s), or download it free (192 kbps).  I'm liking this trend.

FLAC!!!

Download a free His Name Is Alive EP from their website.  The EP includes a song from their latest full length, and since it's one of the best songs off of that album, it's worth checking out just for that.

http://www.hisnameisalive.com/  (select the "sounds" tab, or the small link in blue at the very top right of the page)

The new Nine Inch Nails album is free to a good home, and is available in V0, flac, or 24/96 wav.  Dude is taking what Radiohead did last year for distribution to its logical extreme.

I was just looking for that, found it on my own, came here to brag about it, and noticed I'd been beaten to the punch.

Either way, it'll be nice to finally have a chance to hear it.

(And I know this is cheating, but I put in my old Earthlink address and two syntactically valid variants of my work Email address as my three "friends". I don't want to forward people advertisements about music until I know for sure I like it. Once I do, I'll blog about it and I'll buy the physical CD.)

These puns are getting so predictable! You should leave those kinds of jokes alone for a while; branch out and try something different.

Choosing what to pay after you've heard it would remedy situations like this; unfortunately, it would create many more situations in which people don't pay at all.

I'm sure you could always buy yourself a physical copy of the CD if your conscience is eating you up that much. Or hell, just send Katie a donation.

But yeah, that's why I went with the "tell a friend" approach.

Incidentally, she kinda sounds like Jewel, but with better songs.

I heard "Hologram" on the last Paste mix CD, and liked it, so I paid $7.  If you feel that bad about it, I would just get the physical copy.  If I like it as much as dgp did, I just might do that.  I like supporting artists who do this sort of thing.

Since I already have the physical copy, I paid $2 for the two bonus tracks - seemed fair to me.

Back to work means back to a reasonably fast internet connection, so I've been checkout out what good ol' all songs has.  Under "concerts" they have quite a bit that is new, including Randy Newman, Fleet Foxes, and Tom Waits.  Apparently, they'll have a Radiohead concert up on Sept. 8.

*sigh*  It's good to be back.

Lower-right corner, 8 free, stripped-down versions of songs from his last album.  I think Josh, especially, would get something out of it.

These probably won't outdo the album versions for me, but I'm always interested in seeing how songs that obviously required careful construction and layering in the studio get reinterpreted in more of an off-the-cuff, casual, acoustic sort of atmosphere. So I'm downloading it.

Something seems unbelievably wrong about the movie Twilight being pimped on Iron & Wine's website.

Nor for me, but the songs are good enough that I think they'd work in such a context, also.

The world has gone insane.

Kind of odd that "15 Step" isn't on it, given it's apparently prominent placement in the movie.

I knew it was on the soundtrack, and I guess it's exposure and all that. But Twilight is kind of "slumming it" for I&W.

Kind of odd that "15 Step" isn't on it, given it's apparently prominent placement in the movie.

One of many things that I hate about soundtrack CDs. There will likely be a "Volume 2" later, with the stuff they should have included but left out, and whole lot of "inspired by" material.

Or Radiohead isn't allowing it on their CD release. Which would make sense to me.
