The important thing is that we agree that B429 sucks. The only reason they don't get more flak from professional Christian music critics is because of their name.

Any band whose name ends in numbers is a band I will dislike 99% of the time (can't think of any I do like, but I'm sure there's something out there).

Project 86, Pax217, and 311 are the only ones I've got in my library. I would say that rule is accurate most of the time.

Project 86 is, I'm pretty sure, the only band ending in number that I consistently enjoy. I don't think there are any that I truly love.

Starflyer 59, Project 86, Deepspace 5 and The 77's are the only ones I can think of that I like consistently.

Seriously, guys. U2 is reason enough to throw out that silly rule.
Now band names ending in numbers that specifically refer to Bible verses... that's another story. (Which I guess includes Pax217, who I liked for one album and then they broke up.)
While we're on the subject of number bands, if your name ends in "5", I probably don't like you all that much.

Oh yeah, forgot about U2. In U2's case though, the 2 is actually integral to the name, whereas with most of the other names it looks like they were signing up for YouTube and the name they really wanted was already taken. I'm sure they have reasons for the tacked on numbers, but it's still always been one of those little things that bug me.

If I had a band, I would name it Banana 4011.
Does the number look tacked on? It's not. It's the code your grocer keys into their register when they weigh the bananas.

Murlough, don't deny your love of Jump5, Plus One, and S Club 7 Ha ha. Jump5 was wretched. Plus One, I started to tolerate on their second album, and after two members left and they tried to make the shift to more of a "band", that worked for me. "Poor Man" was a kick-ass song. I have no idea what S Club 7 even sounds like. Scarily enough, my favorite group back in the early days, when I was just getting into Christian music and Jars of Clay hadn't debuted yet, was 4Him. Now there's a cheesy name if I've ever seen one.

Michelle Tumes apparently has a Christmas EP out - I normally don't get excited about Christmas music, and I'm especially unenthusiastic about most Christmas EPs, but Tumes seems like the kind of artist who would be well suited for some beautiful holiday-themed music. She's one of the few artists I can think of who is strictly CCM and fits squarely into an adult contemporary format, yet who I still think has a lot of class.

Oh, and Thrice has a live album that came out today. It was apparently recorded at their House of Blues show that I was considering going to, but opted not to because I couldn't find anyone to go with. That's a good consolation prize for missing what I'm sure was a solid concert. It's a 2-disc set with an accompanying DVD, and the setlist looks pretty awesome - lots of good stuff from The Alchemy Index and Vheissu (though no "Image of the Invisible", whaddup wit that?) and probably some classics that I will become familiar with and that will make me want to check out their older albums.

I was stumbling around Wikipedia today and found out that Something Like Silas's old drummer, Lenny Beh, is currently occupying the revolving-door drummer spot in The Violet Burning. (The band's other drummer, Spencer Kim, is apparently the only member other than Eric Owyoung still with Future of Forestry.) No mentioned of whether they're working on a new album, but I thought it was interesting in a "Hey, I recognize that name" sort of way.
I was looking at the notes on TVB's Christmas album to see if Black Cherry played bass or not (he did not, but he contributed handclaps and vocals) and noticed that Lenny Beh played viola and violin in addition to percussion. I thought that was randomly interesting.

I'm a little amazed that, on December 17th, people are still finding reason to post in the "Coming in 2008" thread!

I realize this year is almost over...but i was just curious if anyone has heard The Welcome Wagon's album? i saw it on Murlough's 'need to hear' in the music journals, but that's the only place it showed up when i searched the site for it. the review at CT a few weeks back and what i've read since about it have intrigued me, but nobody around here has it and i haven't heard anything from people i know and respect about it yet.

I'll have to save it for 2009 at this point. If it's good, it'll show up under "stuff I should have gotten around to in 2008" when I make my Best of 2009 list, I guess. There's always a few of those that escape me. It's on my list of stuff to check out because, while it basically sounds like Sufjan Stevens making an album by proxy, that's better than nothing in the loooooong interim between albums actually credited to Sufjan Stevens.
