I usually don't listen to music from a computer, so the stats aren't actual (lol nintendo @ #1).

But anyways, if you don't have a last.fm account, you need one.

That's a cool site, but the bummer part of it for me is that I can't let other people listen to the songs I'm listening to in full, unless they already own them.  realize there are copyright issues behind that, but it's still enough to make it not worth bothering for me.

There used to be this service called "MyPlay" - I think it came from mp3.com or some site like that, back in the heyday of apster when they hadn't clamped down on the mp3 sharing yet. The intent was for it to be a "locker" where you could upload your mp3 collection and access from any computer that could get onto the Internet, but I used this to allow my friends to sample my music library - sort of like "borrowing" a CD, and it worked out great. (Of course, it didn't track stats on what I listened to for purposes of sharing with other people, because the whole social networking aspect of the Internet wasn't as well-developed yet.)

On a related note, I miss the Pub.

Once upon a time, yes, but they've done a tremendous job of making a wide variety of stuff fully streamable - including both indies and major label acts. Their lawyers have done an impressive job of getting all the right people to do what needs to be done to get stuff moving.

I'm pretty sure that they do have limits on most tracks, though - three plays for a registered user, or something like that. That's enough to match Napster's 3 trial plays and beat iTunes' 30-second preview crap.

The guy who made that software for mp3.com has since released it again under another name, using newer tech. As I recall, it was a bit obnoxious and has a flash interface. I haven't been following it (it bored me, to be honest), but it was called Mp3tunes, and you can check to see if they're still around or offering those features.

So do I, but it's not like we can't upload things in more inconvenient ways. I just posted a few songs over in the pub thread that I upped to YouSendIt. I'd like to see the Pub come back, but there's no reason to rush Vlad.

It hasn't been scrobbling for the last month or so. I'm not sure why. I don't really listen to music on my computer, but my Last.fm scrobbler was set up to track my iPod, which was working great until recently.

Just to clarify, I'm not rushing Vlad. It's a more complex issue than I'm really capable of grasping, so I just take him at his word that he's been trying on and off when he has the time, but coming up against rather insurmountable technical challenges. I miss it, but don't want to put any pressure on him to get it back up. He's got more important things to do, like graduating.

Maybe I'll YouSendIt my latest mix or something. I stopped doing that for a while because I figured I was pubbing most of the tracks from those anyway and it was getting redundant, so nobody was actually downloading and listening to any of the songs.

I don't own a CD player so I listen all my music through my computer which means my last.fm is a disturbingly accurate stat-keeper of all that I've listened to over the past eleven months.

I was at a resteraunt. I ordered a chicken sandwich, but I don't think the waitress understood me. Cuz she said "how would you like your eggs?". So I tried to answer her anyhow, I said incubated, and then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked, and then cut up, and then put on a grill, and then put on to a bun. Damn, it's gonna take a while! I don't have time - scrambled! -- Mitch Hedberg
