I think that movie is pretty hilarious all the way through - especially the part where the racoon is explaining how all of human culture revolves around food.

Funny story - our church participated in an all-day fast on Saturday, and our preacher's young son (about 7 years old or so) was NOT a fan. In an attempt to distract him for a couple of hours, he put Over the Hedge in - completely forgetting that the entire movie revolves around animals seeking MORE food. Needless to say, the movie only served to remind the kid even more that he was hungry.   Grin

I don't blame him. The whole fasting thing honestly escapes me. Not that I'm obsessive about food or anything - there are many times in life when having to eat is an inconvenience because I've got other stuff to do. But my stomach gets extremely pissed at me if I put off a meal by more than a few hours. I know other folks can survive fasts because all they get is grumpy and their tummies rumble and stuff. I get all acidy and light-headed and it just ain't a pretty picture. That wouldn't be much of a spiritual discipline for me.

The point of fasting isn't to make you feel good...

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception.

one of the things discussed by our church jsut two weeks ago was that fasting can involve more than choosing not to eat food. You can fast by refraining from other things, was discussed. I will be honest in that I don't fully understand fasting, but I do understand how taking a break from something worldly for a time can benefit your spiritual side.
