I've decided that I should probably read my Bible, something I don't do a lot due to boredom. Especially Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Anyway, I basically lack self-discipline and would be grateful if some of you old farts could help me stay on track.

And also a study group could be good. I believe in knowing the reason for your faith and I am fond of logic. Although I may need some help with general civility in that as I tend to be very zealous/overboard/insane  once I get going.

This post can also serve as an official apology to anyone I have ticked off already.

I'm not entirely sure what you're on about here. Are you looking for a study group and you want this thread to serve as one? Because honestly, I think the best way to go about it is to have a group of physical, local believers that you can get together with in one room. The Internet is just too impersonal for something like this.

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception.

Well, while that would be ideal, we keep shifting. I don't know anyone here, and while we do go to a church in the nearest town,  it just isn't practical in my current situation. Internet friends also have advantages like when you move, you can take them with you, and greater diversity. If I could join a local group, most likely they would all be from the same church and hold much the same ideas. There is not a lot of food for thought because it's all been figured out already.

You may be surprised at the diversity of thought within one church. The small group I go to has a range of ages from mid-20s to 60s. We have a parents/son's family dynamic. We have people who bring in pentecostal, catholic, baptist, methodist and un-churched backgrounds. We have parents, grandparents and couples with no kids. About the only trait we all share is that at this point everyone is married, though that is mostly a coincidence.

Needless to say, our discussions are usually very interesting.

However, it can be tough finding a group like that. If you want to discuss a particular passage/theology/idea here, though, just start a thread and see if anyone jumps in.
