So Cindy's team sent me the CD tonight digitally so I could have a review up by the 20th (the album will be available digitally on Cindy's site on the 20th)...

I'm really enjoying it - like that is much of a shock.  I thought some of you might be curious to know that the album features an acoustic version of "In These Rooms" (originally found on Elementary - but as a piano based tune).  As much as I love Cindy's piano moments - I never really could get into "In These Rooms."  Man, this acoustic version with just guitar and violin is striking.  I am in awe of this version.

So far - Beautiful Bird seems like the next step for Cindy after Postcards.  Lots of country and bluegrass influences - but also moments that remind me a lot of Elementary.  "Lay Me Down" is a great bluesy number with traditional gospel elements thrown in.  Very fun.

More details to come once the album has had time to really settle in.

BTW - fans can register on Cindy's site and get two free downloads of songs that weren't included on Beautiful Bird.  They are available to download right now if you sign up.

Wow, I had absolutely no knowledge that she was still in the business. I figured Postcards flopped and that was that as far as her attempt at a comeback. It's nice to find out otherwise.

Guess I should hold off on making my "Best of Cindy Morgan" mix until I have the chance to digest this one. (The lack of an mp3 of "Make Us One" was kind of already holding up that process, though.)

CT gave this album an unabashed rave review - 5 stars. Not that this automatically makes an album good... but I already like Cindy Morgan and am excited about this new direction, so it's definitely promising.

Lately, I've questioned any rave review CT gives out but CT and Chris have both given this album 5 stars, so that's probably saying something.

Yeah, it's more about the "why" than the "what" with any reviewer. A rating alone means nothing to me. A rating with a good explanation as to why it was given can mean quite a bit (regardless of whether the review is positive or negative). This isn't example an example of a current, trendy CCM artist doing more of the same stuff that made them trendy - it's one of CCM's old guard, who is kind of flying under the radar these days (well, when she's doing her own stuff and not writing for friggin' Point of Grace, anyway), going the indie route and doing something that is an experiment not at all guaranteed to succeed with fans or critics. So, for something like that to still get a rave review, that means something to me.
