This thought just occurred to me last night in the midst of reading The Odyssey. (Don't ask me why.) Anyway..

So, what do ya'll think God thinks about Christian Contemporary Music? Many here would probably say there is good CCM out there, but much of it is a musical wasteland. I honestly have no opinion about this myself, but I'd love to hear everyone elses.

So what do you think God thinks about CCM? And in response to that, should that or does that your attitude about it?

Discuss and enjoy.  Smiley

I read this earlier today, and I think the reason I'm hesitant to answer the question has to do with speaking for God.  I'm just not sure what He thinks of most CCM.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about CCM so I have no clue how God views the subject.

I agree with the others.  We can't determine what God thinks about things like this, really.  There aren't any clear cut scripture principles which we can use to figure out whats going.  We could say that God would not like his name being used simply to sell stuff to a certain niche audience, and that some CCM artists or geniunely worshipping God through what they do, which God would like.   But, on the whole, we can't know.

I can't speak for God either. I only do that when I speak in tongues...

But I can say for myself, I think most of it blows pretty bad. Most of it. But it's getting better.

Not to send us rocketing off topic, but are you totally seriuos about this statement?  If so, I want to start a thread in the Faith board.

This is obviously just a hypothesis, but...

I think God views the INDUSTRY (not individual artists) with at least some contempt. My usual artistic quibbles aside, there's a lot of idolatry within CCM Land.

I think that U2 will lead the worship services in Heaven.

I don't want to either, but that was a conversation starter/joke because I don't think much of the modern charismatic movement. That's not to say that I dislike the people that I find in these churches. One of my better friends is a Pentacostal. But yeah.

As for whether U2 will be leading worship services in heaven, all you fanboys/girls, I'm not going to say anything other than I'm not sure whether or not they're all Christians or not. I love the way U2 is a great example of some Christian attributes -- like with the work with AIDS -- but unless someone knows something I don't, I have no opinion on this. Except I hope that *I* will be leading at least a few praise services in heaven, with my djembes and bongos.

U2???
look at some of their lyrics. they're hailed as having good lyrics b/c they are a secular, not CCM band. same with collective soul and creed. but look at some of the stuff -- immediately the album POP (with the porno CD art) comes to mind -- "If God Will Send His Angels", "Mofo", etc. ph34r

Okay, U2...:

1. I looked through my Pop jacket, too, and saw nothing that even vaguely resembled "porno." Sorry, man, you totally lost me on that one.

2. Adam Clayton is not a Christian. The other three claim to be. I'm not sure about Larry and Edge- I have no reason to doubt them- but I'm sure that Bono is a Christian.

3. I'm not sure what's wrong with "Mofo," either.

4. "If God Will Send His Angels" is written from the perspective of a girl whose boyfriend, a professing Christian, physically abuses her. So it's easy to see why she might be inclined to think that God's got His phone off the hook. Can't say that I blame her.

There's nothing pornographic that I've seen... though the band makes a few references to pornography in the lyrics, as one of many items on a list of things that we turn to for comfort but that leave us hollow. It's entirely appropriate in context.

Now, if you take the CD cover, turn it 90 degress clockwise, and look at Adam's left eye... you might see a recognizable symbol.

You are aware of what the contraction stands for, right?

Yeah, I think both of us realized that much, but it doesn't particularly offend us, and probably shouldn't.

Hmm, looks kind of like a rabbit or something.  I thought Adam was the blue guy, and the green guy was Larry.  Oh well.

Dv is right. The Playboy Bunny symbol is in LARRY'S eye!

My respect for David has just plummeted, by the way.

Very true.  In the DVD, Adam looks like he at least 10 years older than any other band member.  He reminds of a grandpa, even with his facial expressions.  Larry is pretty young looking, but for some reason, it looks like he is about to cry every time the camera focuses on him.  Maybe thats just how looks when hes playing.  Is that bunny thing intentional, or is that just the way the picture turned out?  I'm glad to here I was right about whos who.  I did, as a matter of fact, look up the album cover online, but couldn't see anything in Adam's glasses, so thats why I asked.  I'm no lazy bum!
