The original release in 2007 was in one of two versions: regular or special edition. He then re-released the album in May 2008 with four new songs (The Cinderella Edition). Now, he re-recorded the song "Yours" with the additional verse. That's being sold only in digital formats with all the money received going to Shaohannah's Hope.
The way he's doing it with this latest one is the right way to go about it. It's the earlier multiple versions of the album that stick in my craw.
I propose this: Release an album once, and release it with the songs that you feel belong on the album. I'm OK with there being a version without bonus content and a version with it released all at once, presuming that the bare-bones album is the cheaper of the two options. Anything you release after that should be available digitally, or otherwise be purchasable separately from having to buy the album again.
But it's probably more of a record label thing than an artist thing. I just know know why the digital age has been so plagued with albums that get all these extra songs tacked on later, as if to say, "These weren't good enough for the album proper, or we didn't think of 'em in time to put 'em on the album the first time around, but now we changed our minds and we think they're worth buying the whole album again for!"
