I got this passed on to me a few minutes ago from a friend who got it from her church.  It's sad news.

Quote
Dear New River Family,

Please lift up in your payers Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman and their family. We have just received the tragic news that their youngest daughter, Maria, was hit by a car this afternoon and sustained injures resulting in her death. As we can only imagine, this will be an extremely difficult time of grief and loss.

Only by His grace,

Michael and Debbie Smith

wow, it gets even sadder, if that's possible, according to this article from the Tennessean.. Cry

Quote
Steven Curtis Chapman’s youngest child died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the family’s Williamson County home.

Maria, one of the Christian singer’s six children, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Hospital, which confirmed the death, according to Laura McPherson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The 5-year-old was hit by an SUV driven by her teenage brother, she said. Police did not give the driver’s name.

The teen was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser down the driveway of the rural home at about 5:30 p.m. and several children were playing in the area, McPherson said. He did not see Maria in the driveway before the vehicle struck her, she said.

“It appears to be a terrible accident,’’ McPherson said.

I can't even fathom what the brother is going through right.  This is just an unspeakable tragedy.

I don't mean for this to sound like a joke, but man, there are several SCC songs that are probably going to be very difficult for him to sing again after this.

This is very sad.  I'm keeping the Chapman family in my prayers.

I was a bit annoyed to find out that SCC was re-releasing This Moment as a special edition with the only difference being a few lines of "Yours" being rewritten to reflect the tragedy involving his daughter. It just seems weird to say, "Here's a window into my grief... now please buy my album again."

No, he's just re-releasing that song via digital outlets.  The only way to get the song is to buy it individually.

Hmm, weird. Then what's with there being three editions of this album? Is Wikipedia just full of crap?

The original release in 2007 was in one of two versions:  regular or special edition.  He then re-released the album in May 2008 with four new songs (The Cinderella Edition).  Now, he re-recorded the song "Yours" with the additional verse.  That's being sold only in digital formats with all the money received going to Shaohannah's Hope.

The way he's doing it with this latest one is the right way to go about it. It's the earlier multiple versions of the album that stick in my craw.

I propose this: Release an album once, and release it with the songs that you feel belong on the album. I'm OK with there being a version without bonus content and a version with it released all at once, presuming that the bare-bones album is the cheaper of the two options. Anything you release after that should be available digitally, or otherwise be purchasable separately from having to buy the album again.

But it's probably more of a record label thing than an artist thing. I just know know why the digital age has been so plagued with albums that get all these extra songs tacked on later, as if to say, "These weren't good enough for the album proper, or we didn't think of 'em in time to put 'em on the album the first time around, but now we changed our minds and we think they're worth buying the whole album again for!"
