Dude, for some reason I thought you were closer to fogeyhood than you are. Anyway, congratulations on successfully not dying for another year.

Funny you mention that.. Actually it doesn't. And the US is really really really stupid when it comes to all systems of measurement. For example, you guys still use Imperial measurements, which make NO sense, while the rest of the world uses Metric. Now, in the Metric system, everything is based on ten, just like the dollar but for weight, length, volume, mass, temperature, everything! Sensible, no? And the date too.. why would you put the month first? Month, Day, Year is just illogical. *sigh* Americans are funny creatures. Oh yeah, Happy Birthday man

Actually it doesn't. You might want to have your sarcasm detector looked at. It seems to be malfunctioning.

Why is that illogical?
Because it is in neither ascending or descending order in terms of magnitude. dd mm yyyy or yyyy mm dd makes more sense from a logic perspective.

Meh, I think that any which way makes equal sense. I think it's mainly just whatever you're used to. Kind of like how in some languages (Spanish, e.g.), adjectives always follow the noun they're describing, while in other languages (German or English, e.g.) the adjectives generally precede the noun they describe. To a Spaniard, it would seem illogical to describe an object you've not yet identified, while to a German, it seems illogical to not identify which/what type the object is before stating the object itself (The dog old, brown, hairy, flea-ridden, Harry's). Neither one is wrong; both have their flaws and advantages. The date order thing is similar, it seems to me. It makes equal sense to me to identify the month first (the broader object - kind of like a noun first) and then the specific date (kind of like the modifier) as it does the other way around.

I find that having yyyy mm dd makes it easier to scan through a column of dates (and to sort them using a computer).
Since so many people write the dates in different ways, I generally write them as 16 June 2008, since then it's unambiguous about what each element means. I work with so many people from other countries that when I see something like 10/5/2008, I have to rely on context to determine whether that's October fifth or May tenth.
