maybe i'm far too sinful still . . .

but i recently stumbled across a shoebox that had escaped my attention for the last year or so . . .
in it i found about 25 CDs, some of which had been taunting me for months . . .
(i knew that i had them but i couldn't find them) . . .

Anyway, among these CDs was a copy of The Best of Led Zeppelin Vol. 1: The Early Days . . .
i must say that i really enjoy this CD. . .
i think LZ was one of the more creative and talented bands . . .
even the "controversial" Stairway to Heaven . . .

anyway . . .
whatcha all think of LZ?

peace . . .
love . . .

I think they are cool.  Some of the most talented musicians of our time.  Have you heard How The West Was Won?  It proves the amazing skills these men had.  They had some great songs, my personal favorite being "Over The Hills and Far Away."  Now, they aren't what you would call a soul searching band, but their musical talent and originality more than makes up for that, in my opinion.  BTW, whats so controversial about Stairway?  The supposed backmasking or what?

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:

Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

I haven't really sat down to listen to them. I've heard a bit of them, and they seem like extraordinary musicians. I'll have to give 'em a shot soon.

Question for LZ fans: A friend of mine told me that their live box set has one song that is a 20-minute drum solo. A) Is this an exaggeration, or is the drum solo really that long? and B) Which song is that?

Moby Dick is probably the song you're looking for.  I believe I have heard a 25 minute version on the radio before. Shocked

You sat and listened to one song for 25 minutes? Wow. And I thought 5 minutes was long rolleyes .

I admit, 25 minutes is awefully long for what is mostly a drum solo, but John Bonham manages to keep it pretty interesting throughout.  Each member of Zeppelin was probably one of the best musicians ever with each of their respective instruments.  Jimmy Page is my favorite member, just because I play guitar and he was amazingly innovative.

Wow...yeah, this is basically my take on the band.  It doesn't help when what looks like a pretty good piece of lyricism, "Stairway to Heaven", those responsible for it say it was just pretty random.  But, there's no denying the talent of every musician in the band.

Stairway gets my vote as the best random song ever.  What do you think about songs like "The Battle of Evermore" and "No Quarter"?  Kind of mythological ballads, or something.  What ever they are, I think they are well written songs.

I'm no Zeppelin expert, though I have picked up their boxed set from the library, so I'm pretty familiar with their work.  How The West Was Won, as you may know, is a 3 disk live album.  Now, it makes a great introduction to the band by itself, because it covers a wide spectrum of their songs, but to truly appreciate the genius, you need to be familiar with the studio versions of the songs.  The studio versions use alot of fancy recording techniques that might make you think they couldn't cut it live, but when you hear HTWWW, your doubts will be no more.
