I can't post big posts at all, on my current setup. If I remove the computer from the network, and plug it into the DSL modem directly, I can. The problem seems to lie in the router. The router has been replaced for a new one, smae problem. This has been annoying me. I have a friend who swears by the integrity of the classics, with their good writing and all, but thinks that the Left Behind books have pretty good writing, for modern books. How many blocks can you get, anyways?

I like Linux to, but the hardware thing is a killer for me. Good point. I think hardware manufactures should amke Linux drivers for all their stuff. It could become big. Windows XP takes up so many system resources, its crazy. I've been stripping down my Windows XP to run as fast as possible, but I'd much rather use Linux. Yeah, well, Linux isn't, nor does it try to be, all things to all people. Windows is general-purpose. Linux is a bit more specific. Gaming, for example, is a futile pursuit under Linux. Frankly, I haven't found the normal stuff I do (word processing, internet browsing, programming) to be significantly faster OR slower under X-Windows than under Windows 2000 or Windows XP. My desktop serves as a gateway for my laptop, so laptop hooks to desktop which hooks to campus ethernet via a different card. If I were living in an apartment (and thus had more space), I'd probably set up a Linux box and run all my other computers through it. And that way I could ssh into it without having to run Cygwin and stuff. But I would still use Windows.

I made a slight change to the member naming system. Once a member hits 666 posts, their title gets changed to The Beast. At the 667th post, it goes back to Phorumophile.

It's strange how much you don't know about family members, close relatives, and friends. Very true. I wonder if the moon's gravity affects us. It apparently affects the seas, pulling them up several meters from their normal point. So when the moon is overhead are we taller? Do our houses stretch upwards a little?

Do all of you Knoxville forumers have southern accents? No, none of us do. At least, not very noticeable ones. Mark, Josh, and I don't really at all. Did you know flies won't fly in the dark? So if you want to kill a fly, turn all the lights out and cover up the window. And if this is the off-topic topic, and the topic is Random Observations, shouldn't we NOT be making random observations?

Aren't flies cold-blooded? Thus, they wouldn't radiate any heat and infrared goggles wouldn't work. Light-amp goggles might, but flies are black and so are most dark surfaces, so I doubt that would work either.

Why is the sky blue? Because blue light has a smaller wavelength and higher power than other forms of light on the visible spectrum. As light travels through a vacuum it moves at around 2.998x10^8 m/s, but once it hits atmosphere it refracts, with the faster (or higher-powered) wavelengths refracting to a lesser degree than the slower (or lower-powered) ones. So we see blue light rather than white light.

Next random observation: Have you guys (and girls, of course ) noticed how our phorum's threads seem to veer off into something completely different than what it began as? For example, the Batman Returns thread went to demons, than underwear, and from there to Captain Underpants (not to large of a step, really). Or the REM in Time thread, which is now the Linkin Park/Radiohead/REM Smackdown! *raises hand* Guilty! =)
