Just found out that the drummer for The Myriad is fighting cancer.  Thought maybe some of you might be interested in that.

from http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=6057590&blogID=445736109 (also found at http://www.themyriad.net/blog/?p=44)

Update 1:

Friends and family,

As some of you may have heard, our band mate Randy Miller had a tumor removed from his upper torso.  It appears at this early stage, the large tumor removed from Randy's chest/shoulder area is diagnosed as Chondrosarcoma (cancer of the bone).  Following a CT Scan to see if the cancer has spread to any other organs or areas provided us with good news.  There appears to be only one suspicious area, the adrenalin gland, which they are evaluating over the next few days to see if it is cancerous.  Randy is going to be connecting with a specialist at Stanford to find out the prognosis and appropriate treatment.  This type of cancer is very rare and at this point the specialist has yet to 'grade' or determine the aggressiveness of the cancer.  As far as your giving, there are medical and personal expenses to date and on the horizon and we, along with the family appreciate everything you guys are doing.  These preliminary results are very good and God is really answering our prayers.  We'll keep you updated as we learn more.

Update 2:

A PET Scan today (11/11) revealed suspicious spots around the surgical area, his left arm, adrenal gland and pelvis. Chondrosarcoma is very rare and for that reason treatment is necessary at special facilities. He has been referred to Stanford to determine the best course of action. The unfortunate thing is that Randy cannot talk with the specialist or even schedule an appointment until the state determines if he is qualified for Medi-Cal. It appears it could take weeks or longer before he finds out if he is qualified. We'll update you as soon as we know more.

There are immediate and ongoing financial needs for the Miller family.  These needs can be met by donating to a "Mercy Fund" set up by a non profit organization called The Stirring and currently designated to Randy Miller.  There are a few different ways you can send tax deductible donations to this fund.  One is online at www.thestirring.org.  Located to the bottom right of the main page you will see "ONLINE GIVING".  If you click on this link you will be directed to a secure page where you can set up an online giving account.  Once the account is set up you will see the "MERCY FUND" and be able to send secure donations to the family through this organization.  Tax deductible donations can also be sent in the form of a check to:

Any financial support you can give in order to help the Miller's through this difficult time is appreciated.

Thanks for your prayers,

Man. I never know what to say in these situations, other than the obvious.

Well, I'll say the obvious.  He's in my prayers.

I always have a hard time actually saying "the obvious" because I'm notorious for saying I'll pray for people and then not getting around to doing it. So I'll do something tangible, like copy and paste the news to my blog and maybe get a few Myriad CDs to give to people as Christmas gifts or something that helps me spread awareness about the band's prayer request.

I solve that problem by just saying a short prayer when I say I'll pray for them.  Then, I know I will whether I do later as well or not.

here is a pretty neat video update.  not neat in the sense of what it's about as much as how they did it. it sounds like a tough road ahead for him though.
