That's OK, I don't think he knew much about some of 'em before this year.

Should this thread be used to post all of our best-of lists at the end of the year, or is it exclusive to your list, Josh?

Regarding your picks, one of them is in my Top 10 (Coldplay) and two others are in my top 20 (TV on the Radio, Drive-By Truckers), so I think we might have more in common than last year!

Regarding Coldplay... really, Viva la Vida is their shortest album? I know A Rush and X&Y could get tediously long, but Parachutes was practically an EP!

Feel free to use it for other Top 10s... I can re-title, if necessary, but figured I was a little early with mine, and the rest wouldn't be rolling around for a while!

And you might be right about Parachutes, come to think of it... that one was also just 10 tracks, wasn't it? I'll double-check it...

Well I've only listened to 4 of those, but I do like those 4.  Good call choosing TVotR for number 1, they're right near my top spot too.

I'll post mine after class Smiley

10 tracks; technically 11 songs since "Life Is for Living" was a hidden track, but that one was only about a minute long, "Parachutes" was 45 seconds, and "Don't Panic" clocks in at about 2:15. I think the entire album is under 40 minutes. Its length was the only reason I was unsure what my favorite Coldplay album was before Viva la Vida came along - I liked the overall sound and style of Parachutes the best, but the two albums after it, while a bit plodding at times, felt more filled out with content and had more variance in intensity and tempo.

Not as cool as Josh's because I'm too lazy to write blurbs for the albums, but here's mine.  And I just started that blog, so my favs of 2007 are right below if you feel like looking at those. Wink

Dude-- you are sooooo indie.  Smiley Some really great picks, though-- always glad to see TVotR and The Tallest Man on other lists. (Unfortunately, I doubt anyone will list Barry Adamson's album except for me and Thom Jurek... probably because we're the only two who have actually HEARD it.)

Indeed. Some of those artist names and album titles have that "I Made Up an Indie-Sounding Name on the Spot and Put it on My List to See If Anyone Would Notice" sort of quality to them.

Some really great picks, though-- always glad to see TVotR and The Tallest Man on other lists.

And Fleet Foxes. Which is conspicuously missing from your list, Josh, even though it was your review of it that initially brought the band to my attention.

Well, my opinion of Fleet Foxes remains unchanged since the time I wrote my review. There were simply a lot of good albums released this year-- if I made it a top 25 or 30, they probably would've made the cut.

My list is perpetually incomplete, but I do have a few that I graded that I just need to add here.

I've got to hand it to you, you're extremely diligent about leaving no stone unturned in search of boundary-expanding new music. Of course, it's impossible to leave no stone unturned, but folks like you and bloop and Ian sure make a valiant effort.

Thanks! I think my list this year is perhaps my most eclectic yet. It's the first time I've included an instrumental jazz album in my list-- well, first time this decade, anyway, though that would change if I were to go back and make lists for most any year in the 50s, 60s, or 70s! And that's to say nothing of the Marco Benevento album, which isn't really jazz but is most certainly instrumental. Plus I've got an acoustic folky (it wouldn't be a Josh list without one), a Southern hard rock band, some indie stuff, some mainstream stuff...

... but then again, it was a really weak year for rock and roll, at least in my opinion. And I don't have any country on my list, unless you count a few stray tracks from the Truckers...

I used to think that was all your lists were, but reading this one, it struck me that this misconception is now more untrue than ever.

And I don't have any country on my list, unless you count a few stray tracks from the Truckers...

I think most of the album is well classified as "alternative country". Close enough.

The Tallest Man on Earth is the only acoustic folky on this year's list, come to think of it-- so yeah, that's got to be my lowest acoustic folky turnout EVER.

I have four Jon Foreman EPs (the equivalent of two albums) on my list, so HA! Beat you.
