When I went to concerts, if I couldn't get in because the show sold out too fast, I'd just say "to hell with it" (and hope they had another date open).
That's more or less my attitude, too - if it's that popular, chances are that getting in and out will be such a hassle that I'll probably go home cranky (or my wife will). I used to have more stamina for the whole "wait around in a crowded amphitheater all afternoon for a performance lasting 2 hours or less" thing, but these days, I'm finding my time and energy to be more limited.
Of course, I have even less patience these days for "wait around in a free festival with no chairs through some condescending preacher's BS. for a performance lasting 45 minutes or less", which is why I've generally ceased checking out my favorite bands whenever they roll through with various evangelistic crusades.
All of the above provides compelling practical reasons to like bands that hardly anyone else likes! (Then again, that's a bit of a Catch-22, because if the artist isn't from California, they'll probably never tour here at all.)
