It's actually not for me, it's for my room mate.  Here's his scheme:  He arranged with the manager of a movie theatre to let him make a proposal video and put it in the ads before the movie.  I'm not exactly sure what the video is going to be like, but he wants a one minute segment song to follow it, for her to say yes and I guess kiss or whatever.  Anyways, he said he wants it to be "sweet and then epic, kinda like Sigur Ros, except not them because they're too overdone.  I need something like them or like Explosions in the Sky or Caspian or something."  I told him I'd look for something good.

Any ideas for that perfect one minute segment?

If you're showing it in a public place, remember that you're either going to have to find the rights to it or find an artist who will let you use it.

On the contrary, the usage that Ian describes is likely to be acceptable so long as it's okayed by the theater manager. I am far from being a legal expert, but this application seems quite defensible under fair use. Also, practically speaking, even if something is illegal it doesn't matter unless someone decides to charge someone with something, and it seems vanishingly unlikely that such a thing would occur.

Also, one minute is a really freaking long time for a response and a kiss. And any bets as to whether they're going to actually feel like sitting down and watching a movie afterwards?

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception.

^ Yeah, I thought about that and I'm guessing they're not gonna stick around for the flick.  As for being one minute, seems kinda long to me too, but that's what he wanted :/

This might be too poppy and not Sigur Ros-y enough for your friend's tastes, but the song "Umbrellas" by Sleeping at Last is pretty much the kind of song that makes me go, "Damn, too bad I already asked my wife to marry me."
