Quite possibly the worst batch of nominees ever.

I didn't see the full list, but I love that RD Jr. got nominated for his role as Sgt. Osiris in Tropic Thunder.

That would be a hilarious career resume: Oscar win for Chaplin and then for blackface...hahaha.

The "good box office summer movie was snubbed" trope is recycled nearly every year, but I'll just say that I think it may be true this year.

Look at various critic's and critical groups' top ten lists, and you almost invariably see "Wall-E" and "The Dark Knight".  Maybe, just maybe, a couple popcorn movies met the high standards of lasting art this past year, and perhaps Oscar missed the boat (not to mention a legitimate way to have people actually watch him).

Wall*E has appeared on more year-end lists from critics' groups than any other film of the year outside of-- maybe-- Slumdog. And it's better-reviewed than any, period. Certainly a helluva lot better than The Reader, which actually has mixed/lackluster reviews. And there's no question in my mind that it's the more lasting and important cinematic achievement than any of the other nominated films (including Slumdog, which I do really love).

I kinda hope Milk wins this weekend.

But I won't complain if Slumdog gets it, as I think it will.

But please, oh please, NOT the so-so The Reader or the boring Ben Button.

I really hope Milk wins. It's easily my favorite movies of last year.
