I think it's very pretty, but, as with Fox Confessor, a bit too polite; by the end of the record, the immaculate productions and samey tempos become boring to me. But there are some excellent songs on it, and her voice is always a thrill.

I'm An Animal has really grown on me.

I wish that this album had more songs that grabbed me.

I haven't really listened to it much - I had it on one day while I was doing other things. I think I really liked a few songs, but I wasn't pay very close attention. I'll have to listen to it some more to form an opinion. Smiley But I generally really enjoy Neko, even her lesser stuff, so I'm willing to bet I'll end up liking this one.

I'm a Neko newbie, but there are no songs on this album that I dislike. I could see how it might be disappointing if she was known for being gutsier before. There are several tracks that  could like a lot, rather than a little, if they had a little more meat on their bones.

At the moment, my obvious standout favorite is "This Tornado Loves You", but I'm also a huge fan of "Vengeance Is Sleeping" and "Don't Forget Me".

"This Tornado Loves You" is my favorite as well.

Murlough, you ought to dig into the New Pornographers catalog when you can get around to it.  If I know your taste as well as I think I do, I think you'll take a pretty hefty liking to it.  I would go for Twin Cinema first.

bloop's pubbed their entire discography; I just haven't gotten around to downloading it all yet.

But yeah, The New Pornos are a pretty safe bet given that I like both Case and Newman now.

Given that both bands are Canadian, one has to wonder why The New Pornographers have never toured with the Barenaked Ladies. Now there's a tour poster I'd want to hang on by bedroom wall.

I like both bands but I don't see them as a tour that would work.  Two totally different musical atmospheres.

You did get the joke there, right?

BNL is obviously a bit more goofy and spastic at times. I have yet to discover what TNP's "atmosphere" is like, but I figured stylistically it wouldn't that much of a disparity.

I got the joke but I figured you were being your usual half-serious/half-joking manner.  :ρ

Yeah, it was one of those things where I only brought it up because I thought it was funny, but then thought, "Hey, maybe that would actually work!" We'll see if I still think that after listening to some Porno music.

Speaking of the BNL, I still haven't quite processed that Steven Page is leaving the band.
