Dear Lazyweb,

So a bunch of friends sort of invited themselves over to my place to watch a movie because I have the best TV and then put the choice of movie on me. As you well know, I have no idea what's out on video over the past months. So here's my question: if you had to choose a movie for a group of people (who can appreciate film but not what I would call aficionados) which doesn't contain much if any potentially offensive content (defined here as nudity, excessive vulgarity, or graphic violence), what would you go with? It doesn't have to be recent, but extra points if it's out on Blu-ray.

I tried looking at IMDB's top films for inspiration, but though there are some great movies on there (out of the top 10, I've seen 7 and enjoyed them a lot), I think this group is looking for something that would be less challenging and more mindless.

Wall-E?

Kidding, kidding.

Looking over IMDB's list, maybe "The Prestige"?

Good suggestions, guys! I knew I could count on the Phorumers to give me two great ideas (*checks timestamps*) within ten minutes of my original post!

I went to netflix to look at their list of blu-ray movies. it is sortable but not formatted in a way that is easily copied and pasted. boo.

but here are a few that I've seen and enjoyed and might want to watch on the best tv with a group. well, it depends on the sort of group.

March of the Penguins
Princess Bride
Finding Neverland
Rudy
The Queen
Gattaca
The Sixth Sense
the PotC movies
Serenity
X-Men and X2
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight

okay these probably have too much violence and stuff. (I'm scrolling through by MPAA rating and picking out some I liked with the most stars. won't bother scrolling through the ones rated R.)
ooh, BSG and Lost would be awesome... you should get these and host marathons. well, for a different group. haha. I am officially distracted and not helpful.

bloop, great suggestion. I went with The Prestige and everyone present seemed to enjoy it very much. It just "clicked" with the group, and we spent about a half-hour after the movie finished just discussing it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Josh, I wanted to get Raiders as well to give my guests a choice, but I couldn't find it anywhere ("anywhere" being defined as the two stores I looked at :P). Scandalous!

Cool.  Glad to hear my shot in the dark worked so well.
