(this is an experiment to see if this will be the least popular thread here. also I wanted to make a pun.)

I just came across this site that sells mismatched (but coordinating) socks. I think they're really cute and fun!

When someone asks me what they should wear, I tend to respond with "Clothes, preferably"

I don't wear socks pretty much ever. Back when I did wear socks, my strategy was to go to Target and buy ten pairs of identical socks and throw them into a drawer. I never had to sort or pair socks, and losing one wasn't a big deal.

yeah, I generally say "clothes, hopefully."

sometimes I add  "or fig leaves" or "not fig leaves", depending on how I feel about fig leaves that day.

I swear I say this EVERY DAY to my roommate.  I don't know what you should wear, pick something and put it on.

I think it would be fun to mess with someone who asks questions like that. "wear the one with the..." (vague hand motions at the neckline/sleeve/hem/wherever). "you know...what's that color called...it's kind of like..." (point at some random object).

That's one of the benefits to being a guy. When I had a roommate, he never asked me what he should wear. (I don't know if it's necessarily valid to generalize this to all guys, but I've had two different guy roommates and neither asked me what he should wear. Furthermore, if a guy did ask me such a question, I think the only appropriate response would be to pretend I didn't hear him or to remind him that I'm not his mom).

I ask my wife's opinion here and there, but I generally pick out my own stuff to buy & wear.

The "what should I wear" question is valid when it comes to casual vs. dressy, I suppose.

Yeah "what should I wear to this event" is different that "what should I wear". I'm That Guy who will wear t-shirt and sandals regardless of an event's formality, so for me the "what should I wear" question is still a no-brainer.

I love clothes and spending time pondering What To Wear, but I am guessing I'm probably in the minority around here.

I love clothes, and love getting new clothes, but I hate the What to Wear question.  It typically gets frustrating when your wife is 100 times hotter than you.

Seems like that would make it easier, since then people are going to be looking at her and not you anyway.

I wouldn't say I love clothes, though I would certainly miss them in their absence. I am also notorious for hating clothes shopping. I don't really know why I hate it, but it's frustrating and annoying.

I like clothes to some extent because I like colors and fabric and design. I don't care about keeping up with fashion/fads, and the idea of dressing to make a good impression or to fit in or whatever annoys me inordinately. I love funny t-shirts, odd socks, and all of my hand-knitted scarves, sweaters, hats, gloves, etc...

in general I hate clothes shopping because most clothing stores don't have what I like/need/want. I do like shopping at the few that do.

Marginally related to clothes: grooming!

This month is Moustache May. Make sure to respond appropriately (females and males incapable of producing an acceptable 'stache are encouraged to fake it with eyebrow pencil or sharpie, depending on your level of commitment).

I am distrustful of moustaches. :} maybe I will wear one as my avatar today though.

That would be an appropriately emasculating gift for a dude who is incapable of growing an acceptable 'stache over the course of a month. I might have to get one for a co-worker who is struggling at the production of facial hair.

if you're feeling crafty, you could make your own with felt and a dowel, like these. you could keep a few in your desk and insist that anybody coming to talk to you has to use one if he or she is otherwise moustacheless!

resurrecting (reattaching?) this thread...
someone who doesn't order things from teh interwebs had me put in an order at the mismatched sock site and bought a pair for me, too.  Grin I picked out an argyle set. (they are technically for men/boys age 10-110, but they fit me, and I like the colors better than the ones for women/girls.)
maybe I've been hanging around the phorum too long, but I really like gray and orangey-yellow together. laugh
