Pholks,

Prayers would be appreciated.  I still have no job and am down to my last $15.  I've deferred all loans that I possibly can but I still have a bunch of other bills due the first two weeks of September.  Hard to understand why I'm not getting any interviews.  Anyways, thanks in advance for any prayers.

Hard to understand why I'm not getting any interviews.

I'm pretty sure it's a failing on our economy's part, not yours. Stating that fact might not help your situation, but I figured you could at least use the affirmation. My Mom has been in and out of similar situations several times this year and even with a job now she's living from paycheck to paycheck, so I can sort of understand what you're going through.

Thanks, David.

As of today, still no job.  I had a phone interview for a supervisory position with Rite Aid.  I thought I nailed it and would get a 2nd interview.  Sadly, no.  That's what happens when the person who does the phone interview is not the one making the decision on 2nd interviews.  These processes are so fucked up.

Ugh. That is awful indeed.

As much as I hate to suggest it... Any chance you could even start somewhere doing the basic sales associate thing, then work your way up into management? Obviously it'd be better to start in management, but sometimes doing the grunt work beats not having a job at all. I don't know if that would be sufficient to pay your bills, and I know it'd mean that you'd be horribly underemployed given your qualifications, and I can't fault you for holding out for something better than that.

I've shared some of the saga about my Mom on these boards in the past. She had to do the sales associate thing at target for a while; now she's working at an educational supply store, and it's only part-time and the management unfortunately treats her like crap, but she used to be a teacher, she knows her shit, and she does her job exceptionally well, so she'll at least get to keep it for the forseeable future.

I was a sales associate/department manager at Walmart before I moved to another town with my folks.  I attempted to transfer to a Walmart around here but there was a hiring freeze in the whole Northeast and they weren't even taking transfers (Another BS thing that pissed me off).  I've tried to get back in and can't. I call and call and nothing.  I applied at Target, Kmart, and several grocery stores in the area and can't even get a call back from them.  Honestly, it's like my Master's degree is scaring them off from paying me a basic 9 bucks an hour.

My Mom had a similar problem. "You've got 20 years of teaching experience? Then why do you want this retail job?" Unfortunately I think it does indicate to potential employers that as soon as something more fitting for your level of education/experience comes up, you're gonna get the hell out of there.

Well, I'm out of bad advice. I trust that God has a smarter plan than my ill-conceived ideas.

Well, Walmart called me back today.  I have an interview on Monday for the asset protection department (loss prevention/security/etc.).  About freaking time.

That's good news, and tackling miscreants trying and failing to steal from Wal*Mart might give you that catharsis you're looking for Smiley

It should.  That position is in the highest hourly paygrade before salaried positions.  I should be making more than I did when I left (or I'll at least request close to that rate) and it allows me to walk the store in plain clothes and people watch!  I feel encouraged because the A.P. Coordinator called my old store and got good words of support from my old personnel manager.  He had interviewed internal candidates and felt he needed to get an external candidate or two (That's usually a good thing since it means he isn't totally sold on internal candidates)

ok, I am officially employed again with Walmart.  I had two more interviews at different stores for varying positions and one finally hired me.  I start on Tuesday.  So glad. Thanks for prayers.

Cool, good news!

If you don't mind me being nosy...you mentioned that you're interested in maybe moving at some point...is that looking like a possibility in the near future or more of a long-term prayer request?

Definitely a long-term prayer request.  It's financially impossible within the next year or two.

I'm applying for a job all the down in Atlanta, Georgia.  Prayers would be appreciated that I get considered for an interview (probably phone due to the distance).  I know a couple people down in that area but I don't want to get ahead of myself just yet.
