Fine. Someone who has admitted to having same sex attractions but who is not endorsing a gay lifestyle or pursuing a gay relationship?

Don't see a problem with that...it's no different from a leader who has admitted to having opposite-sex attractions but endorses physical relationships only within a monogamous married context.

Of course, all of this assumes a church that acknowledges monogamous, lifelong homosexual relationships as sinful. Which is not something that the Episcopalian church believes.

In the interest of full disclosure, it's not something I believe either.

Right, which is why I think they're within their bounds to hire such a clergy member. A church that does not believe this is OK should not hire such a person. If a denomination is split on the issue, that's where it gets tricky.
