Also, it's ok to be informed by others, and allow some perspective to invade one's bubble.

Yes, but in the sense that someone else expressed an opinion, you considered it for yourself, and realized it made sense to you, not just that you blindly believed it because someone with influence told you so.

That seems reasonable enough to me.

I don't know how many people like something just because p4k likes it, but I do know there are a lot of people who only give a chance to what p4k likes.

I recently read a negative review on Pitchfork that convinced me I would probably like the album.

what album?

As Tall as Lions' You Can't Take It with You.

Of course, their opening set for Mute Math last year was also a pretty big factor. And I don't know for sure that I like the album yet... the p4k review just made me even more curious.

I've not heard that whole album, but from the songs I have heard, I don't think As Tall As Lions sound as good on record as they do in concert.
I saw them open for Mae a couple years ago and I loved their set. I went home and downloaded some of their stuff and was a little disappointed. Not that they sound bad on record, it just seems like something is missing.

Yeah, I can see that. I still don't find myself bitching about the things that bothered Pitchfork, though.

They are better in person. ATAL used to play a lot of shows in upstate NY and they are a good choice to see live.

I usually don't have a lot of patience with bands I'm hearing for the very first time live as an opener for whoever came to hear - it's often just one more thing to wait through. Very few bands can impress me live even when I don't know the songs. ATAL was one of those bands.
