Money is very tight, utility bills are higher than expected, Melissa doesn't have a job, and we have to go see a specialist to test Iris (they think she may be autistic) at $30 per visit. Of course, they want to see us once a week. I won't link you to our paypal or anything, but we could use prayer. Thanks.

Not much has changed for us yet. There's still too much month for our money (and a car repair cost us significantly this month). The doctor thinks there is a high likelihood that Iris is, in fact, autistic, and more resources for her would be helpful.
Anyway, my wife is presenting her dissertation tomorrow for her MS, and she's also looking for a job (our family could really use that, too). Please pray for her.

update: I was very worried since my health care insurance is going up around $100 a month, and my monthly salary, like many teachers, isn't budging (and we already weren't really making it very well even without that piling on). Melissa has since completed her Master's degree and got a job at her school as an adjunct professor. Her first paycheck comes in Sept. 16, so things are definitely looking up for us. We should be able to make some headway with these debts to get it to the point where I can (almost) make it if we were down to only my income.
This is her first real teaching experience, so just pray that it's a good one for her. Thank you, all.

Good to hear that things are looking up. I have a friend who was an adjunct for a while, and it's pretty rough. Hopefully this school is a bit better about how they treat their labor slaves. In any case, it's a great way to get a foot in the door, and I hope the extra income helps you all out a whole bunch.

Well, things are looking up, but the HR department at my wife's work is plain dumb, meaning I remain stressed over the almighty dollar. First, they sit her background checks down and let them stay on a desk for weeks, delaying her formal employment (she'll eventually get paid for the time she put in before that, um, I guess), then they get all that straight and tell her that her check will be direct deposited 9/16/10.
That would be today. Guess what? Not there. Come on over and sign your W-9 . . . AGAIN!
In the meantime, we have a day care to pay, some outstanding bills due toward the end of the month, and we need to eat too, dipsh*ts!
Seriously, I'm starting to just wish these people would just DIAF. Sorry for the tone of this entire post.

I'm really sorry to hear about all of the issues your family is having. My wife is a teacher, so I know for a fact that teachers don't get paid as well as they should be for all the work that they put in. It's a real shame. I'm praying for you and your family. Keep up updated.

Well, it's not that she isn't getting paid well. It's that she isn't being compensated at all. The dean gave us about $1000, but that isn't even a good portion of what is actually owed to us (she teaches 10 courses and over 200 students). I showed Melissa where to get the form to file with the VA Dept. of Labor, but she's hesitant to make waves. I tried to tell her that the asshats in payroll are not who she needs to placate anyway. I pretty much want to set the place on fire for the stress it's causing.
(She was supposed to be paid yesterday. Guess what? Seriously, eff them.)

Sounds like that school has some serious issues. I can't believe they would even try to get away with that. I'm praying for you guys.

Um, if she has a contract, I know y'all don't have money for attorney fees, but seriously, LAWSUIT TIME.

An update: my wife did get a full-time job at the university, and they seem to have ironed out the payment issues. So, the biggest thing I'm worried about is the month of August since we're back to only my check until the middle of Sept.
Also, we got a note on our door today saying our shed violates some property maintenance code. I looked up the code, and it's really vague, so I don't know what they want us to do with it, but they want it done by August 22. There's no way we can do that if it's a major repair other than take out a loan, maybe.

Was the note from your HOA? The HOA generally have very little power to actually do anything, and they tend to be comprised of reasonable people. Find out who your neighborhood HOA contact is and have a chat. If it's not an HOA issue (i.e. if your shed violates your state's building codes), you may be up a creek. You could put sod on it and try to convince them it's a hill.

No, it was from the township, found in violation of the VA Uniform Statewide Building Code/Property Maintenance Code. The shed has always been the way it is, I don't know what they're saying needs repaired, and the code itself is very vague. I may appeal just to delay it until I can actually afford to do anything about it.
If my neighbors had anything to do with this, I officially hate them.
