During Sunday Night Football, I heard Anberlin's "Feel Good Drag" while cutting to a commercial just after one of the Green Bay Packers got leveled. Also tonight, I heard The Civil Wars' "Baton Hollow" in an advertisement for the TV show Grimm.

I heard that Civil Wars song randomly in some store. I'm pleasantly surprised by the exposure they're getting.

Speaking of the Civil Wars, our pastor's son and his wife did "From this Valley" during the offertory at church yesterday morning.

Heard a familiar melody in an ad for the movie We Bought a Zoo, and realized it was the Katie Herzig song "Lost and Found".

This is more of a random music person sighting. At my company's Christmas party, it turns out one of my coworker's boyfriend was the touring bassist for Mae during the (a)fternoon tour after Mark Padgett left. I knew he was a musician, but I had never realized he played for a band I really like.

To be fair, you did use "boyfriend", singular.
In a similar "reverse sighting" vein, the former worship director from my church (Justis Kao, I pubbed a few of his songs way back when) can now be seen as a backup singer on X-Factor. Not that I particularly like X-Factor or any of those singing competition shows, but every career's gotta start somewhere I guess, and dude has a great voice, even though you're never gonna hear it by itself on this show.

I was watching last week's episode of Chuck, and I heard the song "We Are Young" near the end of the episode, so I said to my wife, "That sounds like fun.", which of course she interpreted as me saying that whatever the characters were doing onscreen seemed enjoyable.

Those who watch Portlandia already know this, but I'm playing catch-up, so humor me. Aimee Mann and Sarah MacLachlan were in an episode, as menial laborers. They're both good sports.

Every single Portlandia episode is probably gonna have one of these. This week's musical indie-celeb guest appearance will apparently be St. Vincent.
