I'd prefer an album. But I'll take whatever I can get from DV.
You probably already know this, but just in case you don't, they put two new songs on iTunes on August 23, 2010. I accidentally stumbled upon them while browsing the iTunes store a little while after they were released.

Let me wait to see if they're on the album/EP. I tend to appreciate these things more in context than piecemeal.

Thrice will release Major/Minor on September 20. http://absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=2312252Also, Not sure if anyone here cares about this or not, but Hopesfall are back together with their original line-up and working on new material. I'm pretty excited about it!

Vice Verses is set to be released this year, so I'm assuming it wasn't all recorded when Hello Hurricane was released, but maybe most of the album had taken shape then? Surely waiting this long to release it either means they worked on it some more, or else the band or the label just wanted enough distance between VV and HH so that they wouldn't be oversaturating us with new music. From that, I can infer that they'll likely wait another couple years on the other two, assuming they even exist as fully-formed as VV supposedly did. Just knowing how most artists typically grow and change over time, it's likely that what they thought made four good album's worth of material back in 2009, they'll want to go back and tweak, or add new songs to, or remove songs from, etc., over time. Or they'll just pull a Dave Matthews Band, throw it all out, and start from scratch.

This may or may not culminate in a 2011 release, but I found out that Stephen Mason (one of Jars of Clay's two guitarists) is working on some solo material. I'm used to him singing backup on Jars records but I've never really heard him out there in the lead. Could be interesting to see how he does things differently from a band that has already tried on so many different musical hats.

Surely I can't be the only one here who knows that Wilco is coming out with The Whole Love on September 27. It's their first album after leaving Nonesuch. No idea what to expect here, but I guess that's part of the appeal with Wilco. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Whole_Love

September 27 is brutal. Since it gets applied to everything else, I might as well just dub it "Albumgeddon". Add that to the fact that "Arkham City" is just around the corner from there...

For me it's September 20. Katie Herzig, Switchfoot, and Thrice all on the same day. Also Leeland, though that one's on my "Meagerly Anticipating" list, so I can get around to it later since I don't expect much.

Looking forward to those, too, but Bjork (my most anticipated of the albums to be released that day, though Mastodon is close) will always trump Switchfoot with me, I think. She's so crazy.

Yeah, I'm just talking in sheer quantities of album releases. All I've got on the 27th is Bjork and Wilco; still, there's no way I'm gonna be done digesting the previous week's pile by then. That's fine; some of this stuff will undoubtedly take time to appreciate anyway.

Just saw a picture of the U2's Achtung box. I always pick up at least one big vinyl reissue box every year (last year, it was Bob Dylan), and there are at least three that intrigue me for this year. I may need more shelf room.
Of course, the Bjork box just isn't going to happen for me. She might as well just throw in a wurlitzer, too.

What's this one come with, a full-size poster of Adam Clayton naked or something?

Haha. No, it's just these kinds of ginormous box sets take up a lot more real-estate than just an album (even an album in vinyl). The original CD edition of this album sounds good, so whether or not I end up getting it depends largely on the extras.
Really, though, it'd be tempting anyway. This is Achtung Baby we're talking about, which is an even better album than the other 1991 classic getting reissued this year. Now all they have to do is a deluxe Loveless package, maybe Gish too, and I'd be living in 1991 for about a month and a half.

the Eisley record is decent. It reminds me of early early Over The Rhine and Sixpence None The Richer. I'm still not impressed with song writing but they are putting forth a good effort. It's a tolerable album but nothing special. That's how I've felt about their entire career.

I can appreciate that the songwriting is more grown-up, but personally I liked it better when they were more wide-eyed and imaginative. If I want to hear sisters singing jaded break-up songs, I guess I've got Meg & Dia for that.

the two new MuteMath songs are up on Spotify: "Blood Pressure" and "Odd Soul" I'm intentionally waiting for the album. I feel like with MuteMath, I'd rather absorb it all at once than just get a piece of the picture that or may or may not be representative of how their sound has changed without Greg Hill. I also like the new Dream Theater song "On The Backs of Angels" that's up there
Really skeptical about how good they're gonna be without Mike Portnoy. Then again, Portnoy's cheesy growling has been the thing that ruined the last two DT albums for me. It'd be all good if he'd just shut up and drummed.

Sounds like MuteMath has been listening to The Black Keys a lot lately. Nevertheless, I am digging them immensely. This album should be a step forward from Armistice, which I still enjoyed for the most part.

The actual Biophilia album cover: *phew* While it really doesn't matter, I'm glad to see she's not breaking tradition by not featuring herself on the cover. This is the most striking cover image since Homogenic, I think.

I am not digging them immensely. They're okay. Overly simplistic tbh; I feel like Meany is not a very good songwriter at all, or perhaps he blew his load on Reset/Debut. The more vintage sound just highlights this. Listen to something like "She's Long Gone" by the Black Keys followed by "Blood Pressure". THis is not Mute Math playing to their strength. Which I'm not too worked up over, since after Armistice I realize they would probably never approach their early work again.

Neutral Milk Hotel boxset forthcoming, with unreleased tracks. A major re-release not from the year 1991. Since I have a good legal copy of the other reissues, this is going to be prioritized higher.
