I was really looking forward to the Djali Zwan album. Why oh why? On a side note, D'arcy is off getting bad nose jobs while Iha joined A Perfect Circle, so no Pumpkins reunion is in site.

yes, it is unfortunate, however i guess it wasn't that suprising. i am looking forward to mr. corgan going solo though (which shouldn't be all THAT different condsidering he was the 'tyrant' who basically wrote all the parts in SP)
...but why is it his voice that's always the deciding factor in whether or not people like the music?

...but why is it his voice that's always the deciding factor in whether or not people like the music? Not always the deciding factor. But definitely one of the biggest. And for me, the biggest, probably, next to the lyrics. I listen to the vocals, mainly, when I listen to music. I like clever, funny, or just plain cool-sounding lyrics. Just good music doesn't usually do it for me.

I like clever, funny, or just plain cool-sounding lyrics. Just good music doesn't usually do it for me. Give me a lyric that meets those criteria from one of your CDs, other than Weird Al. Voice is actually important to me, but I don't neccesarily demand a conventionally good vocalist. I want some uniqueness in their sound, and a clear control over the range of emotions he is(hopefully) portraying. I haven't heard much Zwan, just one song I heard in a record store once, and about 5 seconds of Lyric looped continuously for about 5 minutes. As a result, I can't say whether I miss them or not.

You beast. ha ha ha. How long are you going to keep that there? Weird Al's funny, yes. Eminem has many clever, funny lyrics (sadly, they come right along with many bad, cussing-laden lyrics  ). Linkin Park falls into the "just sounds cool" category. Chester and Mike both sound really cool. 12 Stones has a very distinctive, cool sound. Good Charlotte has some satire in their songs that I enjoy.

Well, I have to hand you something here. Eminem isn't bad, really. I just think he's hyped a bit over the top. I like Blackalicious and OutKast myself, even Jay-Z I think is a little better than Eminem, on the thug side of things. I have to admit, I like what Snoop Dogg does with his voice, but I don't care for the lyrics. I'm not great and wise in this particular genre, though, so I'm sure there are many others that are quite good. Emericana and cbluejays probably know more than I on this one.

OutKast sounds familiar OutKast has the only rap song I have ever heard on the radio and liked. That song is "Miss Jackson". I also heard "So Fresh, So Clean" which didn't inspire me as much. The problem is, a looked at some of OutKast's lyrics and many of them seem to be filthy, with no real redeeming value. That kind of ruins it for me, which is a shame, as I think the are a very sharp duo.

I think their "dirty" songs have more of a point than you may be giving them credit for, but who knows, maybe I'm over-intellectualizing. I mainly like them for their music, but I think their lyrics are mostly pretty good.

At least, all the rap songs I've heard seem to just have a beat in the background.

Mike from LP a good rapper? I never thought I'd hear him considered as one of the greats... But to each his own. Eminem's all right. The problem with most rap for me is the lyrics. The rhythm is cool and so are the rhymes. It's a personal line I have. Unfortunately, I can't turn to Christian rap, because the lyrics tend to be very corny. And Zwan? Never heard Corgan's stuff, so I couldn't really say.
