Just wondering what people think about the Shroud of Turin.  Was it really the burial cloth of Jesus?  The main argument for authenticity seems to be that there is just too much detail for it to have been faked.

I think the "too much detail to be faked" camp base their arguments primarily on the "people were really dumb before about 1800 AD" fallacy.

The Shroud of Turin is likely a fascinating piece of evidence that people in antiquity were doing extremely interesting things which have since been lost to time (as opposed to today where we do extremely uninteresting things and record them in Twitter, which is then archived by the Library of Congress). It is not, however, a piece of evidence for the resurrection of Christ. If you need physical proof of Christ's resurrection, you've kind of missed the point.

I'm the lone "probably faked" vote. I'm skeptical, but I don't think anyone really knows, and I don't particularly care about the artifact or need it.

Unless you are mistrustful of radiocarbon dating, I think we can, in fact, say that we know it to be fake...

Yeah, that's enough for me to disbelieve it completely. You can see clearly how much I followed it in the first place.

there wasn't an option for "what is this nonsense--nevermind; I don't care", so I didn't vote.

I would think that many people interested in the Shroud of Turin would be very skeptical about radiocarbon dating, since for one thing that indicates that the Earth is billions of years old.

If you are of the sort who believes that the earth is mere thousands of years old and God put fossils, geological strata, etc. in the ground to challenge the faith of Atheists, you are welcome to believe whatever you like regarding the Shroud of Turin, and little things like evidence and science will likely not get in your way.
