A participant (named Christian) at the Promontory board, where I moderate, posted this request recently:
Hey, all. Can I ask for your prayers while my family is displaced? Thanks.
Thursday night, a huge poplar tree in our back yard came crashing through our deck, into our kitchen, and landed in our living room. It did extensive damage to the upper level, as well as residual damage to the lower level. We'll be out of the house for approximately 8 weeks. (We moved in six months ago.)
Right now, we're staying with my parents, who live nearby. That's a big blessing, but we're considering getting a temporary furnished apartment while we wait, to take some of the burden off my parents and to allow us to have a place with our two cats, who survived the destruction but who can't stay at my parents' place. The things we do for our pets...
Anyway, the amazing thing is that the tree completely missed our baby's room (by a few feet) and our bedroom, where we were undergoing the daily ritual of getting ready to go to sleep. The three of us were unscathed, and the incident gave us a chance to give thanks to God in front of gawking, unbelieving onlookers and rescue personnel, who couldn't believe no one was hurt by the tree.
That's all for now. I'm back at work today, or should I say I'm trying to work today. It's hard to concentrate.
