I heard that a band which I have never experienced before-Blestenation-did a cover of Ace of Base's 'Cruel Summer,' a song which I enjoy. So I listened to it, and darned if it isn't crappy and horrible at the same time. What's worse, I have it on good authority that this version was actually a part of the soundtack to Blue Crush, a monumentally bad movie that apparently has a monumentally bad music score to go with it.

So much like System of a Down's crappy cover of Berlin's The Metro, this is another one where we should just pretend like the cover never happened and listen to the original. This is opposed to Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal, which is much better than the original.

That is all.

I think I was with you up until you said the AAF version of "Smooth Criminal" is better than MJ's.

Here at Das Base, I try to make sure that I'm at least open to others' views on art. So I schlepped on over to Kazaa and grabbed the Michael Jackson version. After all, it's been a while since I heard it; maybe the one I heard was crappy. Downloaded in a few seconds (I love broadband) and fired it up. I gave it a full listen (my roommate fled after the first verse; he's MJ-averse, apparently), but I still don't see how it beats the Alien Ant Farm version. But, to its credit, I heard the AAF version first, so maybe it's more about what you hear first than what is "better"

Yeah...maybe it's just the images of the video sticking with me, too.  The whole aesthetic of that video is pretty cool in a cheesy way, but I like it.

You can't be serious.   blink

I've heard of musically sheltered people... but this is unsurmountable...

Peace out,
Andree
